What I don't understand about this story, is that a Church tribunal was convened to look into whether Fr. Despard's accusations were unproven, and reached the conclusion that in 21 out of 26 instances, this was the case.

Huh?

If he named names and said that specific priests were predatory homosexuals, and they were not, and that can be proven, why isn't Despard facing libel suits, let alone Church tribunals?

And if the tribunal reached the conclusion that 21 of the 26 allegations of homosexual intimidation were false, that means at least 5 of them were true: but I don't see anything about the ecclesiastical investigation of these 5 cases, and appropriate penalties against the offenders.

The whole thing has the stink of corruption.

I am not familiar with this case in Scotland. The above article was the first I’ve ever heard of it. I can tell you we had a remarkably similar situation in my own archdiocese-—Los Angeles-—the nation’s largest Catholic archdiocese at the seminary St. John. Here is what Wikipedia com has said about it:

“Alumni of St. John were accused in the sexual abuse scandal, which broke into the public in the late 20th century, of molesting the underaged. Of approximately 625 St. John’s graduates to be ordained by the Los Angeles Archdiocese between 1950 and 2005, 65 had been accused in the sexual abuse scandal, reflecting a rate higher than what studies have found for U.S. priests in general.”

Further, it goes on to say:

“In May 2002, Newsweek had an article entitled “Gays in the Seminary” it opened with a description by a recent alumnus of St. John’s, saying it may be one of the country’s gayest facilities for higher education. Depending on whom you ask, gay and bisexual men make up anywhere from 30 to 70 percent of the student body at the college and graduate levels”

I would further like to add-—to give you an idea of the sheer enormity of the problem here in my archdiocese, our local archdiocese was forced to settle in court for a whopping $660 million! Something which will weigh on us for decades to come.

The whole thing has the stink of corruption.

Indeed it does. It is the miasma of homosexual corruption, oozing from the top down. Cardinal Keith O'Brien, a self-confessed sexual pervert, fostered the culture of corruption chronicled by Fr. Despard, who is now being punished for revealing the unsavory details.
