Indeed. It is overcompensating for a deep-rooted inferiority complex.
Some of our own FReepers are agnostic, but don’t have that “complex” (probably because they are conservative politically), and so they don’t waste energy bashing believers. Anyone who is secure in their Beliefs does not have to bash others to be fulfilled.
However, a combination or atheism, liberalism, academia-worship, “misplaced-superiority”, self-righteousness, condescension, haughtiness, and pride is the fatal stew from which these insults proceed.
It is a form of mental illness.
It is very easy for a Believer to be angered or hurt by these pronouncements, but if we just remember that these are the ravings of a lost, mentally ill, and spiritually bereft individual, it becomes a little easier.
BTW, when an atheist claims that Christianity has been the cause of wars, genocide, etc, I remind them that the BILLIONS who were slaughtered in the 20th Century were mostly murdered by Nazis, Communists, and Muslims(satan worshipers)....all de-facto atheists.
They make the Crusades and the Inquisition look like rank amateurs.
