First, a word on why Protestants tend to object to prayer to the Saints.

Can't be a Catholic thread without knocking Protestants!

Not the title of the source: Shameless popery

It's OK for Catholics to refer to themselves in this manner, but let a Protestant do the same and there are howls of feigned indignation!

Puhlease ... no one is knocking protestants, Alex. This is no different from some of the protestant threads, like the recent one, posted by metmom, on the Communion of Saints.

Being a God of the living and not the dead does not mean we should pray to those alive in Christ who are in Heaven. It means those who believed in Him have life ever after.

As a Protestant, my biggest issue with the Catholic Church is it seems the the vast majority of their prayers are to Mary, not Jesus or God. I don’t see how that reconciles I with John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

Mary has a special place in history; she willingly submitted to God’s call on her life. And that calling was huge. But so have many others throughout history.

Good thing Catholics never post hit pieces on Protestants.

After reading this thread (and being on Free Republic since '08), I feel some Catholics do enjoy coming down on Protestants intentionally. I can only think the saints are praying passionately for us all.

Alex, it isn't intended to knock. The fact of the matter is that we believe differently on this issue. I've often asked questions in forum, because I was not aware that fellow Christian brethren believed what is mentioned above. My non-Catholic friends and i simply state what we believe as just that: our particular beliefs, but I never knew others didn't believe in saints until I got here.

In all honesty, your posts calling other non-Catholic, or ex-Catholic friends are usually among the first in the thread in these discussions. Please understand when it's the other way around, that we Catholics defend our beliefs against attack. Harm is not meant, but differences are a fact of life. May God give peace to you and yours!
