Orthodox and Catholic churches were specifically planned and designed, as were old pagan temples, to focus the emotion of the viewer in such a way that they would be submissive and obedient.
They might be beautiful, but they are a sales gimmick. The author still “has the mind of a consumer”. He just went for a more appealing product, to him.
I like the kernel idea Freeman was working with. He admits, at the end, that “democracy” popped up even in the Orthodox Church setting he favored.
Taking away “choice” is juvenile. Spiritual maturity involves constant choosing (see: Hebrews 5:14).
