Joseph was, as far as I know , MUCH older than Mary...perhaps he was beyond the age....perhaps, because she was probably 14-15, he was uncomfortable with the age difference.

There was no law too stop an old man from marrying a young girl...again I give you Abraham..Joseph was not uncomfortable with the law or he would never have believed the angel and married Mary knowing that a great law giver, Isaiah was the one who said a virgin would give birth...Josaeph was quite comfortable with the law..his family for generations had followed the law of Moses...
