I’d go with the lattermost description of Francis by Dr. Scalfari.
“Sheer ignorance” or “stupidity” I would consider more descriptive of Pope John XXIII.
I’ve never met an “ignorant” or “stupid” Jesuit, but I’ve met many an evil one.
He showed his hand when he praised Kasper's heresies.
