I think the Patriarch Cyril of Alexandria (4th century AD ) established the foundation for all other Mariological developments through his teaching of Mary, as the Mother of God.

The New Testament is totally SILENT on the veneration of Mary.

Mary, the mother of Jesus?

Isn’t she dead?

Fascinating.

Gnostic, confused about time, mistaken about intercession.

It’s Tuesday—on FR that is “Kick a Catholic” day.

Today we set up Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Have a ball—kick away!

Well, these Romanists certainly think Mary does the work. Is it any wonder Rome is a cult?

Bernadine: …all gifts, all virtues, and all graces are dispensed by the hands of Mary to whomsoever, when, and as she pleases. O Lady, since thou art the dispenser of all graces, and since the grace of salvation can ONLY come through thy hands, OUR SALVATION DEPENDS ON THEE.

Bonaventure: …the gates of heaven will open to all who confide in the protection of Mary. Blessed are they who know thee, O Mother of God, for the knowledge of THEE is the high road to everlasting life, and the publication of thy virtues is the way of ETERNAL SALVATION. Give ear, O ye nations; and all you who desire heaven , serve, honor Mary, and certainly you will find ETERNAL LIFE.

Ephem: …devotion to the divine Mother…is the unlocking of the heavenly Jerusalem.

Blosius: To the, O Lady, are committed the KEYS and the treasures of the kingdom of Heaven.

Ambrose: …constantly pray ‘Open to us, O Mary, the gates of paradise, since thou hast its KEYS.

Fulgetius: …by Mary God descended from Heaven into the world, that by HER man might ascend from earth to Heaven.

Athanasius: …And, thou, O Lady, wast filled with grace, that thou mightiest be the way of our SALVATION and the means of ascent to the heavenly Kingdom.

Richard of Laurence: Mary, in fine, is the mistress of heaven; for there she commands as she wills, and ADMITS whom she wills.

Guerric: …he who serves Mary and for whom she intercedes, is as CERTAIN of heaven as if he were already there…and those who DO NOT serve Mary will NOT BE SAVED.

Anselm: It suffices, O Lady, that thou willest it, and our SALVATION is certain.

Antoninus: …souls protected by Mary, and on which she casts her eyes, are NECESSARILY JUSTIFIED AND SAVED.

What, is there a bureaucracy in heaven too? God can’t take the time because he is so busy with this whole universe thing, so Jesus is in charge of the Humans division of the Earth department. If he’s too busy to hear you, try Mary. Of course, you might need to check in with St. Jude, or maybe St. Christopher if you are traveling, or St. Francis if you are having trouble with some animals. If you want to visit heaven you have to check in with St. Peter. For the smaller stuff, you can go down to the church and light a candle, not as effective as a bribe, but a lot like filling out a form.

If Mary is no closer to God than any other person...

then Jesus isn’t God.

That is really not a very Christian position.

Jesus is the only One Who can mediate or intercede in our prayers

Then Paul was wrong to ask people to pray for him (Eph 6:19, Rom 15:13, etc.). If Mary can't intercede for me, then neither can Paul's readers intercede for him.

Yes, her body, her earthly home died over 2000 yrs ago but her soul and spirit are still alive.

The body of Mary will be resurrected to a glorious body reunited with her soul and spirit in God’s kingdom and then all those who erred concerning her will know the truth.

I hate the Catholic bashing on FR. We see things a little different than others, so what?

It’s not Catholic bashing to state Biblical truth as the Bible is revealed.

I think the issue in this article is not her soul or her body... Christians all agree with what you just said.

The issue in this article is this — is it necessary to ask for Mary’s intercession? If so, how is it more effective than going directly to God in prayer?

“We see things a little different than others, so what?”

Ha! If that attitude was reciprocal, it might be a fair question, but Catholics are not generous in the least with other Christians who differ with them on matters of doctrine. Nope, if we see things a little different, we are heretics, anathema, etc.

That is really not a very Christian position.

Mark 3:…33Answering them, He said, "Who are My mother and My brothers?" 34Looking about at those who were sitting around Him, He said, "Behold My mother and My brothers! 35"For whoever does the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother."

I think I can speak for Cardinal4 on this subject. We live under a broad umbrella called Christianity. We may differ on some points, e.g., how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, but on the major points, I think we all march to the same drummer. BTW, Cardinal4 is my oldest son.
