Gideon

New International Version (NIV)

28 Thus Midian was subdued before the Israelites and did not raise its head again. During Gideon’s lifetime, the land had peace forty years. 29 Jerub-Baal son of Joash went back home to live. 30 He had seventy sons of his own, for he had many wives. 31 His concubine, who lived in Shechem, also bore him a son, whom he named Abimelek. 32 Gideon son of Joash died at a good old age and was buried in the tomb of his father Joash in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

33 No sooner had Gideon died than the Israelites again prostituted themselves to the Baals. They set up Baal-Berith as their god 34 and did not remember the Lord their God, who had rescued them from the hands of all their enemies on every side. 35 They also failed to show any loyalty to the family of Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) in spite of all the good things he had done for them.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Gideon, like all of us, had his failings. After all, he was just a man, a sinner, like everyone else! But God used him to do great things in the face of insurmountable odds.

We may bristle at the treatment he received from his own People, yet I can name many great leaders who were either excoriated by the press, abandoned by their own People, or even worse, betrayed by the very ones who benefited from the leader's heroism. Winston Churchill was the first name that came to my mind, but I am sure you can think of others as well.

A well known Bible Society has named themselves after Gideon, because they started out as a very small group. Their symbol is the flame and the jar, which was the chief "weapon" of Gideon's tiny army.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

The Gideon’s are still placing The Holy Bible in many places, hotel rooms, Doctors offices, etc. It works for me.

Times when we are concerned, or upset, especially, going to the Holy Bible is wise, indeed. How do we know God if we do not read His Word? Today society seems to be suppressing Faith, in God, almost trivializing it. We are surrounded by miracles, our body and how it works is a miracle,. There are none so blind as those that will not see.

There is a program on Public T.V. channel about the migration of the MONARCH butterflies. Great program. (PBS.org./ Monarch migration). and it is a proof of God’s miracles. There are many and yet we fail to notice miracles for what they are. (God bless all seeking to know and love the LORD, in Jesus name amen). Forgive us Father we know not what we do.
