That is actually not true. Here in my diocese there is a Priest who is married with 3 kids. How did that happen? He was a Presbyterian priest and changed religions to Catholicism. The Bishop recognized his Priesthood. He is a great and inspirational speaker and gives a wonderful homilies.
Yes. I know. There are plenty of married priests. We have large number of married priests in my own archdiocese. Most of them converts from the Episcopalian Church. I see them all of the time. Orthodox priests are permitted to be married. Priests in Catholic churches in the Middle East and Eastern Europe are permitted to be married. There are lots of married priests. They do just fine. It seems that the Church’s policy of compulsory clerical celibacy is applicable to some, but not all. Another reason why the policy should be questioned, discussed, revised, and updated IMHO.
