Cardinal: Church Must Abandon Harmful Approaches to Lesbian/Gay People
New Ways Ministry ^ | Bob Shine and Francis DeBernardo

The Philippines’ top prelate decried the clergy’s harmful treatment of lesbian and gay people during a recent address in London, saying modern science and social attitudes must be integrated into the church’s pastoral efforts.

Cardinal Tagle looks a little light in the loafers to me.

For the last 40 years Catholic priests have went out of their way to be “merciful” to abortionists, homosexuals, and the rest of these public sinners. You seldom ever hear a homily about the effects of this sinful behavior on the person or on society. And look at where that’s gotten the Church? Seminaries that were loaded with homosexuals that lied their way into Church, committed sex abuse that has cost the Church some 3 billion dollars. Francis knows all this. Now he wants to be more “merciful” to these people? What he needs to start doing is quit purging the Church of faithful bishops and get rid of the fruitcakes like Wuerl who has let this garbage continue for years. But will he do that? Of course not. He’s too liberal. But as far as being more “merciful”? Give me a break. We need the exact opposite. An inquisition against these characters who are promoting evil of the first degree.

Don’t worry. The only Catholics who will be fooled by these men are those who want to be fooled.

That’s what he wants you to see. He’s too smart (i.e., crafty) to approve homosexual acts. But by saying nothing about the Church’s past “approach” except that it was “hurtful,” and by hammering the message that there are no “answers,” only “creative approaches” for “individuals,” the message is clear: we must tell those who commit sodomy that they have nothing to confess, and may receive Communion.

That’s the bottom line: We are “hurting” people by telling them to stop receiving Communion until they stop committing sodomy.

IIRC, JPII’s catechism says the Muslims PROFESS to worship the same God that we do.

CNN? Come on!

And even Wednesday, New Ways Ministry was recognized simply as a lay group of Catholics, not one that speaks for the LGBT community. The Vatican didn't grant members' request for a special private audience with Francis, nor did anyone acknowledge their calling out to him that "we are gay and lesbian Catholics,"

How can he trust what psychology teaches us after seeing the harm done by homosexual priests and bishops to the reputation of the Catholic Priesthood? That’s looking at it from a purely worldly angle. From the biblical view which we learn from the first chapter of Romans, should be tell them that what they do is not sinful? That is not an act of mercy; it is to confirm them in their sins, to doom them to spiritual madness.

He’s basically doing the Francis thing - the doctrine won’t change, just the way the sin is handles (or not handled, in reality). It’s that old “merciful pastoral approach” dodge that Francis and Kasper dreamed up.

Btw, not only is Cdl Tagle also in favor of the “pastoral approach” to the divorced and remarried, but he’s in favor of married clergy. And the worst thing is that Francis is supposedly grooming Tagle to be his successor and the parties of supporters are already forming. Francis may indeed retire when he’s 80, but he wants to make sure he leaves the Church under a young leftist Pope.

The full statement is "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."

So, ebbtide's correct.

Absolutely. Anything post-Vatican II is suspect: liturgy, code of canon law, catechism.

Grand daughter “Holly_P”, I don’t believe she even lurks a lot any more, she stays very busy with her job and a toddler. She joined F.R. sometime in 2003 when she had just started college. Soon after, her posting went down.

She posts from my desk top occasionally, when she visits.

God’s Word. Stop right there.

That's right - you should have stopped typing right there, and followed your own advice. God's Word.

They were sorted out through infallible interpretation over nearly 300 years under Petrine authority and the canonical text of AD 382 in the Synod of Rome is the Bible you speak of. That infallible authority to say authoritatively what is and is not God’s Word did not disappear eleven centuries late with the Protestant Reformation where very Tom, Dick, and Harry and their grandmother offer us “their” interpretations of God’s Word. Thus we don’t have Joel Osteen anymore than Billy Graham or Jim Jones or David Koresh or Rev. Jeremiah Wright telling us what is God’s Word.

God's Word is given by God Himself, not man. Throughout human history, human beings have attempted to add to, remove, and twist God's Word. Read the Bible - God Himself speaking through Jeremiah and the other prophets condemned the false prophets, who made up lies and said it came from God. Paul had to correct and warn the early Christians several times about incorrect teaching, false doctrines, and the like in several of his letters.

The early Christians had the authority of Torah and the legitimate books of the Old Testament. They had met the test of truthfulness. These were not in dispute, and those that were false were never adopted. There was no one "Bible" during this phase of Christianity. In the early centuries, before any of your present day Roman Catholic traditions and all the rest, since early Christians did assemble the Old and legitimate New Testament books. Since God inspires all true Scripture (2 Timothy 3:16), we can be quite certain and confident that God assembled and directed the 66 books of the current Bible. However, the foundations of what became the present day Roman Catholic church made fundamental errors that God did not inspire, along with many other blasphemies and heresies against His Word that were not addressed until the Reformation.

Just one example for you: the 5th century Latin Vulgate chose to include the Apocrypha, which is still included by Catholics as God inspired Scripture, where clearly it is not.

Reasons why the Apocrypha does not belong in the Bible

Paul himself had to continually warn about false teaching:

https://www.biblegateway.com/resources/commentaries/IVP-NT/1Tim/Opposing-False-Teachers-541

Today's Catholic church has gone way, waaaay off the path that God laid out clearly in His Word. It is a teaching of traditions, idolatry, and under Francis, absolute lies about what God's Word says.

Pope Francis assures atheists: You don’t have to believe in God to go to heaven

Pope Francis Warns ANY "Personal Relationship w/ Jesus is Dangerous"

Joes Osteen is a false teacher, he preaches a false "prosperity Gospel."

anymore than Billy Graham

Billy Graham is one of the greatest men of the last millennium, and perhaps one of the most Godly men in history. God will richly bless him on the Bema Seat as Scripture tells us in Romans 14:10-12; 1 Corinthians 3:10--4:5; and 2 Corinthians 5:1-10.

Jim Jones or David Koresh or Rev. Jeremiah Wright telling us what is God’s Word

LOL! Why don't you throw Barack Obama and Adolph Hitler into your bag of wet pasta and see if anything else might stick to the wall.

Well, there is only one Supreme Being.

Anyone who recognizes that fact, and who intends to worship that one Supreme Being, is a monotheist and is in fact worshiping that one Supreme Being.

Muslims do that. They also get absolutely everything about God dead wrong, and I am certain that Satan himself has a great deal to do with Islam, including posing as God at times.

Positively bursting with helium.

He strings the weasel-words together like a real champ. I’ll bet if Burke were elected, Tagle would turn into a roaring lion of orthodoxy.

Absolutely Arthur.

Your post is timely - this was my Scripture verse of the day from Biblegateway:

https://www.biblegateway.com/

"let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Acts 4:10,12

Catholics on FR are constantly denigrating some Protestant denominations for accepting the queer lifestyle and adding homo priests and priestesses...

Should be noted that many in the Catholic religion are pushing hard to follow in their footsteps...Just a matter of time...
