Christians are our own worst enemy. The different Christian denominations will come to blows over the slightest miniscule difference in word or though. No wonder the Muslims are sweeping the world. No infighting there. We Christians of various denominations better pull our heads out of our collective asses and quit beating each other up over what amounts to irrelevant non-sense and minutia and combine to oppose the Islamic threat, because they won’t really care if one of you thinks Peter is the Rock and one of you doesn’t, when they are taking out heads.

Christians are our own worse enemy. We have been for my entire lifetime. I grieve over the intolerance that one Christian demoniation shows the other. A pox on all of you who do this.

Indeed. I sometimes wonder if obama has lurkers on FR. I bet they laugh their butts off at these threads.

Obama knows that he wins the support of the majority of Catholic voters, and he wants to import millions more of them.

There is also a vast political difference among the denominations.

You will settle for a happy meal when you could have a banquet? Go in peace.

The source is indeed scripture — just not Rome’s twisted and incorrect interpretation of it!!!!

Argue with that!

Here’s a hint: you can’t. Scripture is God’s inerrant and infallible word. Rome claims infallibility, but man cannot be infallible.

Besides... you’re not going to convince me, I’m not going to convince you... but I pray God does convince you; otherwise eternity might not be very pleasant.

From what I have read, this has become sadly a Catholic basing thread. It does not surprise me at all.

Christ is the head of the church -- he is the Cornerstone. Not man. A man. Just Christ. Besides, why would Jesus appoint Peter the "head of the 'church'" when some verses later he was rebuked by Christ and told,

"But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

Rock? Yeah...a hindrance (stumbling block), not to mention when he denied the Lord three times!

So, yes... God did appoint a leader. His only begotten son. Jesus.

As for the keys? Metaphor for the apostolic authority given to ALL of the Apostles as they were to spread the gospel.

After Peter died Linus claimed to be the head of the Church

Actually, there is no record of Linus claiming to be anything. What is recorded is that in 180, Irenaeus wrote that the apostles committed to Linus the office of the episcopate.

No MAN is leader of any Church. The Church is simply a congregation of different people, following the Path. If you want to confess or pray, take it directly to The One that can do something about it. We all are personally responsible for adherence to The Law. We are also personally accountable for our acceptance of the sacrifice our sins. ONLY the blood sacrifices were done away with, as Christ was the single sacrifice for all. Sacrificial shedding of blood was but a symbolic rite to point us towards His death and Resurrection. All other laws are eternal, including keeping the Sabbath. Though we are not to be judged by them, keeping them is a sign that we both know and obey the law, and therefore follow in the path blazed by our Savior.

On another note, it didn’t seem like Yeshua had much love for the church of his day. All he did pointed to a personal walk with God. There will be no man, no President, no King, no Pastor or Pope, that will save us or our nation. No group salvation, just one follower at a time. Church groups are great, for study or social activities. Not so much for fawning and leadership.
