Irish support (based in religion and otherwise) for the universal taboo of deviance should be respected.
FWIW, a St. Patrick’s Day parade in NYC has become completely meaningless; the Irish population itself is a shadow of its former self.

In my day (1950’s), the parade was an excuse for the Irish-American boys from Fordham and St. John’s to get the girls drunk as skunks, then take them up to the hotel room for fun and games.
I never participated.
Yuppies and hipsters are the largest “white ethnic” group in the city, hence why it is the most expensive city real estate wise in the United States.
