Dachau: ‘The Largest Cemetery of Catholic Priests in the World’
Catholic Culture ^ | 2/3/15

Posted on 02/03/2015 7:14:02 AM PST by marshmallow

2,579 Catholic priests, seminarians, and religious were deported from across Europe to the Dachau concentration camp, according to a newly published French book.

1,034 of them, 868 of whom were Polish, died there.

According to Guillaume Zeller’s La Baraque des prêtres, Dachau, 1938-1945, the priests included German priests who spoke out against euthanasia, Polish priests who were considered part of Poland’s elite, French priests who resisted the Nazis, and a French bishop who aided the Jews.

“The Dachau camp remains the largest cemetery of Catholic priests in the world,” said Zeller in an interview with Le Figaro. They “maintained their humanity” throughout their imprisonment as they celebrated the sacraments, aided the sick, and carried on clandestine ordinations and theological training.

141 Orthodox and Protestant clergymen were also imprisoned at Dachau.

What Unit, Brother?

My dad was a tank platoon leader with the lead elements of 20th Armored, which broke the gates of Dachau and let 4th Infantry in for the relief.

As the inheritor of the photos, ........

and yes, an RC calls you Brother.

'Signing the Concordat'.. between the Vatican and the Nazis, 20 July 1933...... As the Nazi Franz von Papen, said,....

"The Third Reich is the first world power which not only acknowledges but also puts into practice the high principles of the papacy.".......

As far as the Vatican is concerned, a government that signs a concordat has become an arm of the government of God, which means that the Vatican will help it, giving it divine protection.

Signing the concordat is Cardinal Pacelli (later to become Pope Pius XII). Second from left is Franz von Papen, a leading Nazi and devout Roman Catholic.

Pope Pius XII, however, said nothing, just as he also said nothing about Auschwitz.

Oh, look, we caught a new one.

caww, this is such a complete lie you really ought to be ashamed to post it. The Israeli Consul to Italy after the war, Rabbi Pinchas Lapide, credited the Holy See with directly saving 860,000 Jewish lives. When he died, Pius XII was eulogized by Golda Meir on the floor of the UN General Assembly. I guess you know more than she did about who did and didn't oppose the Holocaust?

The Good Samaritan: Jewish Praise for Pius XII

Even the Wikipedia article is far more balanced.

It contains the following reaction by leading Nazi Reinhard Heydrich to Pope Pius XII's Christmas address of 1942:

In a manner never known before, the Pope has repudiated the National Socialist New European Order. His radio allocution was a masterpiece of clerical falsification of the National Socialist Weltanschauung...the Pope does not refer to the National Socialists in Germany by name, but his speech is one long attack on everything we stand for...God, he says, regards all peoples and races as worthy of the same consideration. Here he is clearly speaking on behalf of the Jews...That this speech is directed exclusively against the New Order in Europe as seen in National Socialism is clear in the papal statement that mankind owes a debt to 'all who during the war have lost their Fatherland and who, although personally blameless have, simply on account of their nationality and origin, been killed or reduced to utter destitution.' Here he is virtually accusing the German people of injustice towards the Jews, and makes himself the mouthpiece of the Jewish war criminals.
Do you really want to claim that the Nazis didn't know exactly where they stood with Pius XII, and somehow him "speaking out" would have accomplished something worthwhile? Seriously?

Incidentally, the whole "Pius XII acquiesced to the Holocaust" lie was a fabrication by the KGB.

First, just for the record, my father was a German who grew up under Hitler. He was a year old when Hitler came to power.

Second, I don’t see where the number of Poles killed by Nazism is denied anywhere.

And next, the issue here is how Catholicism cherrypicks things itself, so that is always the victim and never wrong or the victimizer. There’s a cultic defensiveness of Catholicism that seems to rival Scientology’s. In this case, about Poles killed, as far as I know the prevailing view is that they were killed for being Slavs, who were an inferior race in Hitler’s mind. But to argue that they were killed for being Catholic - that, in essence, Hitler targeted them chiefly for their Catholicism - then it has to brought into that equation that Hitler was baptized, via infant baptism, and then later confirmed, a Catholic himself. And what’s more, then, why doesn’t this article acknowledge that fact? Why the whitewashing of it? If he’d been raised a Jew, with circumcision and a Bar Mitzvah, and killed 6 million Jews later, even if it wasn’t directly for their religion and ethnicity, wouldn’t it be a glaring omission if that isn’t at least acknowledged?

But Catholics would still deny that the Catholic Church had any complicity in the atrocities. Unbelievable.

Do not accuse another Freeper of telling a lie. It attributes motive, the intent to deceive. Discuss the message not the messenger.

I visited Dachu twice, the first time fog covered the place. It was spooky and dark. The towers the barbwire, we just went in so easy, we thought of all those who wanted out so much. We saw the wall where so many were machine gunned to death and there were the gas chambers. The Ovens were nearby. Took a picture of the sign “ Arbite Mach Frie”. What a day, never to forget.

>>The Nazi Party was overwhelming *not* supported by German Catholics,<<

How convenient that all the pictures showing just the opposite were removed from this thread. That doesn't remove them from the web for anyone to find the truth.

Nuns marching with Croatian Nazi legionaires.

The Franciscan monk, 'Miroslav Filipovic', left, as a 'priest of the Roman Catholic Church' wearing his cassock, ... AND... right, in the Ustashi uniform. ......Filipovic was the Commandant of the Concentration camp at Jasenovac where unspeakable atrocities were committed and where many were starved to death.

Me: I've had more than a couple of FRoman Catholics who have claimed that the Nazi Party was a Protestant movement, and was overwhelmingly supported by German Protestants.

You: The Nazi Party was overwhelming *not* supported by German Catholics, contrary to what a certain former member of your "Calvinist Caucus" used to post ...

Why bring that up in response, instead of addressing what I posted?

If the truth is the purpose of our discussions those pictures are important evidence. Every picture has the source embedded and simply right clicking on it gives that information. So in effect the source is there.
