“Rabbitgate”: Video Witness Shames The Pope

He (Francis) has backpedaled, I know. He has backpedaled in pretty much as much of a clear and unmistakeable way as can be normally expected by a Pope. But there is no doubt in my mind that this backpedaling is not the fruit of him realising that he has inadvertently expressed himself in, say, an unlucky way. On the contrary: he says very clearly what he means, and his body language makes the point all the way. The backpedaling is therefore, without the shadow of a doubt, an exercise in damage control meant to distract the faithful from what the Bishop of Rome really thinks.

I'm curious, do you believe a faithful Roman Catholic has the freedom to reject whoever is the current Pope because he disagrees with his teachings and methods? Would his ex cathedra teachings NOT be binding on you should he declare something as de fide? Just how far will sedevacanists or SSPX groups take this?

Infallibility doesn’t apply here. Francis has made no pronouncements from the Chair of St. Peter in union with the Bishops. We have had bad popes in history but they do not affect the Church and the Magisterium. The Medici monsters were not interested in theology but rather in Politics and Power. That is the way of it. His personal opinions, and that is all they are, do not rise above being personal opinions.

Is it unreasonable for people to expect the head guy of your religion to ALWAYS speak in accordance with what you are ALL supposed to believe in common? At least in public? How is it that a supposed successor to the Apostle Peter holds personal beliefs contrary to what every Catholic is mandated to believe? I don't see how y'all can hide behind the "infallible only on ex cathedra stuff" when so many are up in arms over the new Pope's "unorthodox" statements.

I wish I had a dollar every time this questioned was asked, explained and ignored ....only to be asked again probably by the same people.

Not that it is any of your concern, but the remark is such an outlandish projection -- no, it's not even up to that. It's malicious gibberish. See if you can follow along:

I make a comment using a well known figure of speech: "You watch too much tv." The object of that comment responds by suggesting that, because there is a difference between youtube and tv, the comment is not to be taken seriously. And then he goes on with further, barely cohesive derogatory remarks, to which you contribute. All this on a thread that purports to know what Pope is thinking and saying and why (another projection), a folly which is repeated on anyone who dares criticize the premise.

I don't know if there's any medication for that, but if there is, you should take it before you embarrass yourselves further.

That's just it, I'm not mystified by the weasel words, rationalizations and "lawyer" speak RCs have to use to allow themselves the wiggle room needed to explain what to normally educated people are blatant contradictions. If you don't know the answer, just admit it instead of avoiding the question. After all, y'all have to live with the decisions mandated to you.

It is ironic, isn’t it, that Roman Catholics post such articles as OPEN Religion Forum threads and then pitch a fit if anyone NOT a RC dares post a comment?!

the Pope doesn't "backpedal." people watch too much tv. People who should know better.

In this case he should backpedal by issuing an abject apology. What a nasty expression on his face as he "gossips" to the media about a woman who deserves congratulations from him instead of such scorn.
