I agree .. Herod never repented for the wholesale slaughter of the children he thought were going to replace him as king. This would have occurred before Herod’s meeting with John the Baptist.

Those episodes were two different Herods. Herod the Great died soon after the events of Luke 2. Herod Antipas, one of his sons, is the Herod of the Gospels.
