I got the same impression from some masses on tv. The people there seemed bored out of their skulls. They never smiled or changed expressions. On the other hand, I have seen local Black churches on tv which were wonderful. They loved Jesus and were not afraid to show it. And, do not forget those colorful hats. We used to wear hats but I have not seen any in 35-40 years. Even the little girls do not wear them anymore. Belonging to Jesus should be a joyful experience and I do not see that in a catholic service. Could it be that thy do not have anything to have joy about?
Thy should be they. My iPad is still doing its own thing. I misspelled a word recently and the speller made a word I had never heard of and I do not even think it was even a word.
Yes, I came to see that in Catholic services. I had more excitement over the mass than the moderate-liberal Lutheran services I was used to, so I didn’t see people’s disinterest in the mass so much at first. The mass was also about half as long. The Lutheran services I attended were never shorter than an hour and a half. That’s not long for an evangelical service, but for a Lutheran one that’s just trying to cross all its t’s and dot all of its i’s while keeping Jesus out of it as much as possible, it is.
Correct Mama. Joy and unity are utterly unknown in the Catholic Church. Going about trying to establish their own righteousness, to try and work their way to Heaven, and never knowing for sure if they have led a good enough life to make it, can't possibly be joyous snd satisfying, even a little bit. It was quite unsatisfying when I was a catholic.
