Bill Donohue's Moral Equivalence (catholic Caucus)
CREAtive Minority Reporta ^ | January 8, 2015 | PATRICK ARCHBOLD

Posted on 01/08/2015 2:50:42 PM PST by NYer

Increasingly, the Catholic League's Bill Donohue is less a defender of Catholicism and more a defender of the sycophantic whims of his patrons.

First was his shameful defense of the St. Patrick's Gay Parade. Now his absurd moral equivalence with regard to yesterday's Islamo-nazi shooting massacre at Charlie Hebdo.

Here is the key part of his statement.

Killing in response to insult, no matter how gross, must be unequivocally condemned. That is why what happened in Paris cannot be tolerated. But neither should we tolerate the kind of intolerance that provoked this violent reaction.
While he perfunctorily condemns the killing, he calls the cartoons a provocation for massacre.

Let's get this straight. As Christians, we deplore mocking other people's religious beliefs and Charlie Hebdo's cartoon are understandably offensive. But to call such cartoons a provocation establishes a shameful moral equivalence between the act and the response.

An offensive cartoon may be a provocation for a sternly worded letter to the editor or even a boycott. But it is not a provocation to mass murder. A child's bad behavior is not a provocation to abuse. A wife's talkback is not a provocation to a broken nose. And an offensive cartoon is not a provocation to mass murder. To call it one is offensive to me. Maybe Bill Donohue just provoked me. Fortunately for Bill, I just write blog posts about such things.

Very disappointed with this guy lately. Shameful what he did with the parade. It is terrible when you can’t count on people you thought were solid.

islam deserves no respect, it deserves to be scorned hated and destroyed

The sooner, and more visciously it's destroyed the better. Far as I'm concerned, turn the entire middle east into one big sheet of glass. Bastards deserve it.

If I recall correctly, this is a Catholic Caucus thread.

Then, fellow practicing Catholics, (see forum rules) how about this:

May his (Jesus') redeeming strength transform arms into ploughshares, destruction into creativity, hatred into love and tenderness. Then we will be able to cry out with joy: “Our eyes have seen your salvation”. - Pope Francis

Let's remember who we are: followers of Jesus Christ! Hate is wrong, it's a sin, perhaps one of the most difficult to overcome! Let us pray within and amongst ourselves to be kind to one another, and to all our brethren- Catholic or not!

We can discuss; we may disagree, but let's treat one another with respect and dignity! There is enough hostility outside the caucus: let's have a civil discussion!

God bless us, Mary keep us! Peace be with you!

My apologies, this was meant for all, not just usconservative. My mistake, I’m sorry.

I think everyone would feel different if some stupid newspaper printed a very offensive picture or cartoon of someone they loved doing unspeakable sexual acts.

that same magazine, some time ago, pictured Jesus having some sort of a sexual encounter with God.....and the Christians didn't kill 12 people because they were offended.

This Donahue is a piece of work.

Here’s a link to his interview on the Hugh Hewitt show.

And there is a link therein to the audio which really shows his psychosis and anger.

"Had [Charbonnier] not been so narcissistic, he may still be alive," Donohue says, in what must be one of the more offensive and insensitive comments made on this tragic day.

He reminds me of a professor who spoke at my son's graduation. He went on an ad-lib rant about the republicans and the hubris of Bush and Cheney. Very disjointed and sometimes undecipherable. He looked so proud of himself that I had to track him down to tell him, "Hubris - the act of making a graduation into a personal dais for poorly planned and poorly stated political beefs." He and one of his colleagues scowled while they tried to think up a clever retort - the other colleague grinned and winked.

I think Bill was just inarticulate. He’s usually on the money.

He is president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights in the United States since 1993. That hardly makes him the spokesperson for the Catholic Church.

First, you shouldn’t nit-pick every word someone posts - it is childish and unwarranted. I believe we are on the same side. I am not defending Islam or anyone else for that matter, just merely pointing out (in my opinion) what Donahue might have been trying to say. God Bless.

Donohue doubled down on Megyn Kelly’s show last night. He sure did make a fool of himself.

Blaming the victim is never a wise tactic, as Megyn pointed out so eloquently.

Can Donohue explain to us what the janitor’s mortal sin was? Emptying wastebaskets, or sweeping up the floors, at Charlie Hebdo?

And what about today’s wounded victoims? Did they deserve to be taken hostage as they shopped for food? Women and children—how did they “provoke” the Muzzie rats?

Donohue has lost all credibility.

That interview is really worth listening to (there's a link to the audio on the page ifinnegan posted).

Be sure to do so when time allows. It's a real eyeopener.

WOW! That interview is something else. Talk about narcissists (which Donohue called Charbonnier, and said that he brought his murder upon himself.) I think Bill Donohue, through his own narcissism, may bring about the murder of his cushy career as the Caped Crusader of Catholicism.

Why couldn’t he name one cardinal, bishop, or priest who agrees with him?

He threw out Raymond Arroyo’s name (but the last I heard, Arroyo is still a layperson.)

I’m curious...did Raymond ever call Hugh Hewitt to proclaim his undying love for Bill Donohue, and for BD’s warped and insensitive pronouncements on these murders in Paris?
