Sad that his “strength” wasn’t from a personal relationship with God. It’s good to attend church and it’s good to observe the ordinance of Communion, but if you get strength from activities instead of directly from God, it’s a case of the tail wagging the dog.
I don’t think you understand the power of receiving Christ in the Eucharist during Mass. That’s where the quote comes from.

You don’t get any more personal with God that Holy Communion. But of course a protestant would have no idea.
