You have to follow the ACLU’s involvement in this stuff. In order to avoid one of their lawsuits, cities have to permit any organized belief that requests an opportunity to give the invocation to do so. On the flip side, if you put together a list of local religious groups, invite them all, and the only people who choose to participate are Christians, you’ll also get sued if too high a percentage of them mention Christ.

I think you nailed it. This is a City Council trying desperately to avoid a lawsuit. This idiot basically gave a one-size-fits-all invocation that alluded to pretty much all belief systems.
