Sounds like what happened to the Secret Service is happening to the Swiss Guards.

Maybe it’s time for the Swiss to reevaluate their desire to guard this guy?

“Italian press reports said the pontiff wanted to see a less rigid military corp and one that was less obsessed by rules.”
Because that always leads to success with military units. /s
Perhaps Pope Francis wants to be a martyr.
To: Gamecock; All

The commander of the Swiss Guard at the Vatican has been removed from his post. The surprise news that Daniel Anrig, who had a reputation for being rigid and teutonic The 42-year-old father of four was appointed by Pope Benedict in 2008 and his five-year contract had been extended indefinitely. Italian press reports said the pontiff wanted to see a less rigid military corp and one that was less obsessed by rules. What kind of military does he want then?

Now I understand the symbolism of “blowing smoke” when a Pope is chosen.

Obviously the Pope does not value the discipline the guard needs to protect him and the church. Oh, well, the Cardinals elected the dummy.

I am not Catholic.
Looking in from the outside I have come to the conclusion that Pope Francis is:
1. A really nice man who wants peace for all people.
And...
2. A naive Communist.

It is now evident that the new Pope is not only anti-Capitalist but naive in matters of human nature. While a leader can often afford to be lax toward others, encouraging laxity among those who answer to him for the security of his city-state amounts to dereliction of his responsibilities. The oft-clarified Francis has exhibited poor choices of words ever since his ascension, and is now exhibiting equally poor judgment. While Francis does not speak for me as a Protestant, his Papal office is a prominent stage for good or evil. Many Roman Catholics have to be wondering what their cardinals were smoking when they elected this man.
