The Holy Catholic Church is not an “organization”, it doesn’t “traffic” and it encourages Bible study among Catholics. Geez, do Protestants (the `sola scriptura’ variety) really believe that Rome fears its nefarious rule will be overthrown by knowledge of the very Book that is the basis for worship of Jesus our Savior? Msgr Pope is basically correct, but he says that Satan can take religious things and corrupt them.
It’s more like Satan takes the things of God and corrupts them INTO religious things.
Then the problem is that religion replaces relationship and it becomes a relationship not based on love, mercy, grace, forgiveness, but wages due for work performed. With the thinking of *I fulfilled my end of the bargain, now God is obligated to me*.
