>>We furthermore forbid any lay person to engage in dispute, either private or public, concerning the Catholic Faith. Whosoever shall act contrary to this decree, let him be bound in the fetters of excommunication. Pope Alexander IV (1254-1261) in Sextus Decretalium,<<
Oy!!! Lot's of Freepers here subject to excommunication it would seem.
>>"Do not converse with heretics even for the sake of defending the faith, for fear lest their words instil their poison in your mind". Bl. Isaias Boner of Krakow (Polish, Augustinian priest, theologian, professor of Scripture, d. 1471)<< I'm gonna bookmark this so every time a FRoman Catholic starts to engage in disputes concerning Catholicism, I can point them to the "rules" and how they are excommunicating themselves (Latae sententiae). That'll shut 'em up, right??!! ;o)

LOL I wouldn't bet on the "shut em up" part. It is interesting that the hierarchy of the Catholic Church would have considered them excommunicated however. Evidently the lay people are not to spread the gospel as scripture admonishes us to do. It's one more instance of the duplicity that is Catholicism. Oh, and proof that they haven't changed in 2000 years right.
