Even Southern Baptists know not to turn down an invitation from the Pope.

My point is that simply "Old Testament Biblical Marriage" --- including polygamy, reproductive concubinage, periodic abstinence each and every month to maximize fertility, and the rape of female prisoners of war ("enjoy your plunder") --- does not, in fact, serve as a model for Christian marriage.

I believe I may rest my case.

I agree with you completely: Any teaching that contradicts Scripture must be rejected.

The Catholic Church’s teaching on marriage is drawn directly from the words of Jesus on marriage. It does not need “maturation” or “development.” It needs to be obeyed.

I am not confident that “maturation” and “development” during the coming year will mean anything other than agitation and propaganda.

Wow- those questions really addressed the pastoral issues in a way I had never considered before! Sorry for the late reply but I just read about the conference in LifeSiteNews today and came looking here to see what had been posted.

Sorry to say that I'm a Catholic that NEVER considered these pastoral issues and have been quick to condemn the Synod. You've done a spiritual work of mercy today!

If assigned to such a parish, I would slash my wrists.

No, you would not. I hope. You would pray hard and find some way to do the Lord’s work in the Lord’s way, trusting in his grace and not your own finesse.

The Church of Our Lady of the Parade of Horribles.

These are all cases of people who have made a huge mess of their lives. The answer, in all cases, is that the individuals involved must desist from sin. The other consideration is the danger of scandal. Often, if possible, people who may legitimately receive Communion, but cannot do it in their home parish without scandal, do so elsewhere, or in private.

Fr. Benedict Groeschel commented some years ago on the large numbers of same-sex couples who have decided to live continently, without breaking up. He said that years ago, he had assumed that such couples would have to move apart, but “we live and learn.” A recent film about three Catholic SSA people who had made the decision to live continently included a man whose “partner” was unsurprised by the decision, and the two continue to live together.
