Homosexual Marriage: A Watershed Issue for Evangelicals
The Christian Post ^ | October 20, 2014 | Rob Schwarzwalder, senior vice president, Family Research Council.

Posted on 10/20/2014 2:46:09 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

There is a point where decision on contentious, difficult issues is unavoidable. With respect to homosexual conduct, the American Evangelical church has reached that point.

There is no ignoring the determination of the gay and lesbian activists to insist upon complete social and legal normalization of homosexual conduct; from the adoption of children by same-sex couples to the judicial recognition of same-sex unions as marriages every bit as complete as those enjoyed by heterosexual couples. Thus, Christians cannot avoid the need to decide which side they are on.

The Supreme Court's decision earlier this month to allow current judicial rulings on same-sex marriage to stand is not the final blow to natural marriage some believe it is, but it does give the issue new and unavoidable prominence.

Fidelity to scriptural teaching on human sexuality has become, for believing Christians, a watershed issue. Issues involving same-sex marriage and homosexual behavior are for today's Evangelical community what the inerrancy debate was in the late 1970s.

Even as Evangelicals gently but firmly speak the truth about God's teaching regarding human sexual conduct, they need to extend the mercy of Christ to the homosexual men and women God brings into their lives. If Evangelicals have homosexual neighbors, they need to treat them with the same warmth and respect they should treat anyone else. If their kids become friends with children raised by same-sex couples, those little ones should be welcomed as eagerly as any other child. If one's homosexual colleague is in the hospital, visit him, do his yard work, drive him home, and so on....

Secession!

It started with the home school movement. obamacare has led a lot of Christians to join Christian Healthcare Co-ops rather than be in govt mandated health insurance. Now the leftists want to have control over what's said in church and to mandate that Christians marry homosexuals. We already know the fed. courts will back the homosexuials. Whats left to do, they won't leave us alone.

I think the answer is to push for the right of states to leave the union. Let the leftists have the northeast and west coast. Let God fearing freedom loving people live in peace.

We are all sinners. There are many sins. Coveting, murdering, holding other gods before the one True God to name just a couple. The difference is repentance and believe in Christ as your savior.

If I had children, would I let them hang out with friends where one of the parents was openly and knowingly cheating on the other? Heck no. Homo’s are the same. Unrepentant sinners. My children would not be at their house. Period.

How would I treat an unrepentant embezzler?

Homo’s can pass all the laws they want. They are still unrepentant sinners that I do not wish to associate with and will never accept.

If your kids make friends with the children of homosexuals:

Don't let your kids attend any slumber parties.

Man can’t change the Catholic Church silly; Jesus is in control. Man tries to screw it up (bishops, popes), dictators try to conquer it....all fail. Have faith in the one whose church it is! It’s not a denomination, it’s The Church of Jesus Christ.

What led to the Reformation? What happened to the Catholic Church? It purged its human sinful elements, and didn’t change. Abusive priests? The Church has been purging its human sinful elements, and not changing. Synod? What morality changed, despite some bishops’ pleas? Holy Spirit is in control. Keep the faith.

Children are one thing - they haven’t a firmed understanding yet and so you would teach them in a safe setting their faith. Adults - we need to example Christian love, which as Jesus exampled, is really warm to real sinners, but not changing nor celebrating of sin. Some changed and followed Him. The rest crucified Him, and He graciously allowed that.

We need to do the same. We will convert some and be tortured and eventually slaughtered by the many that reject Him, such love/example. So we will lose our lives but save the 100th sheep that is away and that God knows will come back if we love him, so we will. That’s what Francis is trying to get us to do and we’re freaking out that he’s going to change everything into a celebration of all sin. Have Faith and live it in what you do...DO!

Protestants folded like a cheap suit on birth control, and many have already folded on this. I give them 50 years max before the majority are doing them.

The Catholic Church will be the only one standing strong.

What am I missing?

In animate objects.

About 2 years ago I was speaking to a lesbian friend of mine.she asked why I opposed gay marriage. I asked if it would be okay to marry a German Shepherd or a John Deere tractor? Would it be okay for a brother and sister to Marry?

I asked several other questions along the same line and each time she replied; No!

I told her we all had a line we won't cross, I just drew mine in a different place than she did.

Then how does one explain all the homosexual priests?

You've got your own issues. Starting with Pope Francis. But you knew that.

Leviticus 18:
22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.

24 Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:

25 And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.

26 Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:

27 (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;)

28 That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.

29 For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people.

30 Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the Lord your God.

Then how does one explain all the homosexual priests?

The same way you explain adulterous protestant ministers. The same way you explain embezzling bank Presidents, Alcoholic surgeons, etc...

They are human beings with all of their foibles and frailties.

But each of them understands that marriage is a sacrament, and for a sacrament to be valid you must both the proper matter and form. If the couple are not one of each then you don't have the proper matter and do not have a licit or valid marriage.

But “adulterous protestant ministers” haven’t become an international scandal, now have they?

So you deny or want to ignore the fact that many thousands of homosexual paedophile priests infect the Catholic Church and have done so for many, many years? Or am I making it all up?

"Nothing new, folks. God’s people have always had to decide their stance on morality outlined in the scriptures. We’re just back to being in the minority again"

You mean all that stuff in the Bible about suffering for the faith applies to us too?

I couldn’t find that verse in my bible: “hate the sin, love the sinner.”

I did find these verses about some sinners:

“Shouldest thou help the ungodly and love them that hate the LORD? Therefore is wrath upon thee from before the LORD.” (2 Chron. 19:2)

“Do I not hate them, O LOED, that hate thee? And am I not grieved with those that rise up against thee? I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them my enemies.” (Psalms 139:21-22)

(Said of the reprobate): “Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, PROUD, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers, WITHOUT NATURAL AFFECTION, implacable, unmerciful: who knowing the judgment of God, that they which do such things are worthy of death, not only donthensame, but have pleasure in them that do them.” (Romans 1:30-32)

I hate them.
