If the Pope came out and tomorrow and said “I want all Catholics to burn their houses down”, some of the “faithful” would just say “Should I use gasoline or propane, your Holiness?”.

I can't think of anyone in my parish who would. But I know plenty of self-identifying Catholics who have a problem with obedience, but they're usually not active in the Church, Sunday Catholics, or cultural Catholics.

Well, if the folks in your parish will accept a change of the Church’s teaching because “the Pope says it’s okay now”, they may as well be burning their house down. The Pope’s power is to be the guardian of tradition, not an innovator.

They go to Mass. Donna Wuerl gives them Holy Communion. They’re cultural; just like Donna and Francis.
