Of course. I originally said "use your brain", but an intelligent person also consults the wisdom of the Holy Church, that comprises the breadth of diverse opinions, in his work on understanding the Scripture. So, the dogmatic pronouncements of the Church, for example, on the papacy or on the Christian canon of the Old Testament, represent not a single viewpoint but a synthesis of the controversies that lead up to the dogma.
