Not quite.
We merely need a simple majority for our rulings to become infallible.
(It's them DAMNED Mormons and their Quorum of Twelve that have a UNAMIOUS vote to determine when GOD is speaking through the Living Prophet®.)

I’m old enough; but we had no tv until the late 50’s.
And we THANK them for that!
Why do they get upset when we USE it?
Fail Logic 101; eh?
Because they think it works.
Perhaps it does; on the uninformed.
Is this something we DON'T know?
Yup.
DOCUMENTED to be bits, snippets, cuts and pastes from very many unrelated sources.
Revelation mentions 7 'Catholic' churches.
Where are they today?
No you didn't.
So you believe Jesus visited His mother because any good "son" would do that?
I believe he visited His mother and his brothers, from this context:
21He replied, My mother and brothers are those who hear Gods word and put it into practice. (from my post #165, which gives 2 of six examples of whom Jesus visited. I didn't read the other 4, did you? Maybe Mary in included in one of those.)The Bible is a great source of wisdom and history. Especially about Jesus---He is the Word...The Word made flesh (from the 1st Chapter of the gospel of John which is in the new testament)
Tanak. The Jews? Somewhat deeper in time.
And in "Our Father", Jesus taught not a Christian, but a Hebrew prayer.
Scripture therefore determines whether tradition is acceptable....The traditions of Christ and the apostles are things that would be recorded in scripture."
Jesus saves through the Sacraments. They were all instituted by him.
BULL!
Jesus answered, The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.
...metmom; your commentary (or the commentary of boatbums) does not hurt me (the Eucharist provides a sturdy skin), it hurts you imo (which shows up through your words; i.e. bitter, upset, angry with/at the Catholic Church and/or her beliefs).I fail to see bitter, upset in metmom's or boatbums words, but imo rather in yours. (I guess the "imo" makes it not personal?)
The first announcement of the Eucharist divided the disciples...There was no announcement of the Eucharist in the Bible.
Oh and to those that believe there is anti-Catholic bias by management of Free Republic, I will note that when I didn't capitalize "Eucharist," the spell function set me straight! That had to be done out of respect for Catholic members, or, as has been speculated many times by those that believe there is anti-Protestant bias, maybe management is Catholic.
That picture you posted of that alter/shrine ...wow!
The Catholic Church says the "magesterium" is in succession of the apostles. So it's obvious they agree that the apostles were Jesus hand picked guys who where originally taught by Him and who He designated to bring His gospel to the world. The "magesterium" claims that because they are successors their authority and "interpretations" are not to be questioned. I presume we are in agreement thus far.
My position has always been to go directly to the source. Since we all agree that the apostles were by Jesus chosen to be that source through which He and the Holy Spirit would bring His gospel to the world we should see what they had to say on the subject. We find they indeed did have something to say on who should ultimately check to see if what was being taught was true.
Acts 17:11 and these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, they received the word with all readiness of mind, every day examining the Writings whether those things were so;
There Paul is commending the Bereans for checking with scripture to see if even what the apostles were teaching was true. They weren't commended for relying on some "magesterium". They were commended for checking that " magesterium" against scripture. It was scripture that was supreme. Jesus did the same thing. Check how many times He said "it is written". Jesus appealed to what had been written. The " magesterium" of that day would have been considered the Pharisees. What did Jesus have to say about them? It is obvious from the apostles and Jesus that "it is written" supercedes any so called "magesterium".
It's the individual believer who is promised the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who is our teacher giving us the ability to check " what is written" to see if what we are being taught is true.
1 John 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit -- just as it has taught you, remain in him.
The so called Catholic "magesterium" has corrupted that chain of authority. They are in the same position as the Pharisees of Jesus day.
** alter**?????????
When I look back on my experience I find this cartoon has a ring of truth. There were many verses of the Bible that I either didnt realize existed (though that may seem strange) or that we just ignored. Other verses I just read with my Baptist glasses on and twisted them to fit my old tradition. Looking back it makes me happier than ever to be a Catholic. -Steve Ray
