Another anti-Catholic thread?

Those TWO popes where NOT Catholic???

Strange organization you are supporting; where us Prots are making it go in a direction it doesn't want to go in.

It takes a serious and diligent read.

You left out 'properly catechized' and 'close-minded'.

Well!! There it is! The belief that relying on God's word alone is a "fools errand".

Of course the sticky point is when a protestant says "alone". Then what constitutes the Word becomes a matter of preference. What the protestant deems they can live without is left out. Rather than conforming themselves to what is true.

Somewhat akin to Pelosi's Deem and Pass self-executing rule.

Why, as a former Catholic, do you believe this is untrue?

But first...

Why, as a current Catholic, do you believe this IS true?

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

It is to CATHOLICS!!!

As long as someone in AUTHORITY has made the claim; who are they; a mere pew warmer; to challenge it?

1. Do you believe that Elijah was taken into heaven in a whirlwind?

2. That Enoch “walked with God”?

3. Then why don’t you believe that the Blessed Virgin Mary could have been assumed into heaven?

#1: In the bible

#2. In the bible

#3. Not in the bible.

Why don't you 'believe' that I have pet unicorns, as well as goats, in my pasture?

Wow! So much for those who try to tell us the Catholic Church doesn’t say you have to be a Catholic.

As long as someone in AUTHORITY has made the claim

"If he will not listen to the church, treat him as a pagan or tax collector." -Jesus

Why do Protestants accept Luther's authority to promulgate novel doctrines, like Sola Scriptura, when there is no evidence for it in the Bible, the early Church, or the first 1500 years of Christian history?

The article conflates the condemnation of de transitu with condemnation of the doctrine of the Assumption.

And this explains...

...what?

Besides, do you really think -- honestly, now -- that Catholics are so ignorant and stupid that they would dogmatize something in the 19th century that had been condemned as heresy in the sixth?

Yes.

Look at what they've done with the Last Supper!

It's kinda -- hmm, nicely, nicely --- it's kinda unnecessarily constricted to say you doubt something happened if it didn't happen in Scripture, which --- correct me if I'm wrong --- seems to be your opinion.

Ok; you're wrong.

...you doubt something happened...

...was NOT what she said.

The NECESSITY of believing that it DID 'happened' is what was questioned.

Believing it or not has ZERO to do with a person's salvation.

>>"Then they laid their hands upon them, and they received the Holy Ghost"<<

Acts 15:8 and the heart-knowing God did bare them testimony, having given to them the Holy Spirit, even as also to us, 9 and did put no difference also between us and them, by the faith having purified their hearts;

Revelation 12   (KJV)

And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.

14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.

16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

I'm curious.  Just WHAT in Revelation 12 'convinces' you...
Verse #3?                         And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
Maybe verse #6??           And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
Or is it verse #14???    And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
Or, lastly, verse #17      And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Rome is on HOW many hills?
What wild place did Mary FLEE to?
When did Mary's wings fall off?
What are the names of the REST of Mary's CHILDREN?

Yeah, so in this supposed “unbloody sacrifice” you drink real blood. Did Jesus eat His own flesh and drink His own blood?

Strange isn’t it that the early Church Fathers who through scholarly research and the received oral tradition sorted out the various books, rejected some and included others, that we call the Bible is now denied the authority to use these very same means of theological inquiry to proclaim the Assumption.

Then if they proclaim ANYTHING in the future; you'll just go along with it.

I see where you are coming from; for you will be SURE that it's going to be coming from GOD; as your leaders would NEVER do ANYTHING that was incorrect...

2 Thessalonians 2:11
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

I think the difference here is that Luther not only did not claim to be infallible, he did not claim to know for certain how Mary travelled to her present existence, whether it be by assumption or by physical death.

And neither does the leadership of your chosen religion.

And; to top it off; they've no CLUE as to where her present existence is!
