The Biblical Model of A Family-Loving Feminist
Aleteia ^ | September 19, 2014 | DEVANIE COOPER

As a student of business and an entrepreneur, I was intrigued that this holy woman spends her time training herself, producing, selling, investing and trading. She even embarks on several new business ventures in the twenty verses that describe her!

She “surpasses them all,” we’re told in Proverbs 31:29. She has real estate projects, engages in the operations of crop cultivation, which she trades at market. She’s woven clothing and produced belts for sale, all the while having an apostolate to the poor and needy. What are we supposed to learn from this multi-tasking phenom?

This passage is telling us that—as women striving after holiness—we should not hesitate to use all the talents the Lord has given us and all the skills He’s enabled us to acquire. Photography? Health care? Organization and home improvement? Graphic design? Social media marketing? Don’t hesitate to do it all.

After creating man and woman, God says to both “Fill the earth and subdue it" (Gen 1:28). He is not only instructing them to procreate to perpetuate the human species, He’s also giving both of them the earth, charging them with the responsibility to be stewards of its resources. The woman is the man’s helpmate in this!

Man and woman alike share equal responsibility from the start. In their fruitful relationship as husband and wife, in their common task of exercising dominion over the earth…” – Pope St. John Paul II, Letter to Women (1995)

Another interesting point about the woman in Proverbs 31 is that she’s not engaging in entrepreneurial endeavors for her own glory or for “pin money” to indulge in a spa day. She’s not working simply for the sake of profits. She works for the benefit of her family and the needy.

Bl. Zélie Martin, the mother of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, was an exquisite lace maker and very talented businesswoman. She read the newspaper every day and kept up with the stock market. She had many women working for her, and she was so successful in her work that her husband, Bl. Louis Martin, quit his job to become her business manager and salesman.

Like Zélie, we women should look at what our families are doing and see if we can contribute our talents to the work to which God has called them, directly or indirectly. The family doesn’t have to be engaged in the same thing, but as women striving with grace after the biblical ideal given to us, we should embrace our inner entrepreneur and be about the work God has put before us for the sake of our family and others.

“Man and woman alike share equal responsibility from the start."

While both were charged to managing the earth, the man was given the higher positional responsibility. Thus he was the first to be called and charged with sin, as he hearkened unto the voice of his wife, (Gn. 3:17) and also blamed God for giving him such a free-willed women.

Yet the women sinned by being deceived by the devil's attempt, who, as the originator of the "occupy movement" ("I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High"), and like a Communist, sought to persuade Eve to subscribe to the victim-entitlement mentality, and "share the wealth" scheme, that God the land owner/law giver, was selfishly holding back from her that which was rightfully hers, that of Divine power, and thus she should take that which was hers.

And so she voted liberal, while overcomers by faith, by which they were first made to sit in heavenly places in Christ, (Eph. 2:6) shall sit with Christ in His throne, even as He also overcame, and am set down with His Father in his throne. (Rv. 3:21)

But which the devil sought and more, as the original liberal elite who presumed he deserved it. And being cast down, as he that exalt himself will, became the first community organizer, who seeks his will to be done on earth as it is in his kingdom, which he hopes to come.

And who sees his victories in persuading souls to follow those who call evil good and good evil, from idolatry, and exalting men as if they were divine and false corrupt gospels (incldg. Catholicism) to killing the innocent, to perverting what God hath joined together in marriage with the demonic imitation. Thus a vote for those who support such is a vote for the devil and his damned kingdom.

But i digress.

Yeap only one can have ultimate final say in a home for the good of the family and it is mans position to be such as GOD ordained it to be. My wife always has full input in decisions and I do listen to her as I can be wrong and forgetful. But I am also the one spiritually and morally responsible for decisions made which have to do with the welfare of the family spiritual or otherwise. I think it often leaves her quite relieved emotionally that it is that way :>}

On the other hand a woman who is GOD Fearing and Righteous as much as our earthly existence allows us may have to step in when the man refuses to fulfill his obligations as head of house and spiritual leader of family and become as such a tyrant. Usually such having to do such the family suffers because of the mans lack of responsibility.

Please do not suggest that Bible supports feminism in any fashion. Proverbs 31 is in the context of the advice of a mother to her son, a prince, on how to choose a wife. The advice harmonizes perfectly with the patriarchal system found in the rest of the Bible. The wife described is a woman of character which is described as rare thing. She cares for others even rising up early to cook for her servants. She is others minded and works in concert with her husbands wishes that he can sit at the gate. This is all antithetical to feminism, it is biblical patriarchy as practiced in the station of a king and queen.

So what is feminism? Feminism is the reordering of the God created created order particularly as it applies to the place and role of women. Let us never forget that Adam was condemned for listening to his wife instead of to God. He was the covenant representative of the human race and his exaltation of his wife above his own authority and his desire to please her instead of God led to the fall. Feminism denies the doctrines of authority and seeks to venerate women often by denigrating men. It seeks egalitarian status when it finds it advantageous, but rationalizes male expandability when it egalitarianism is disadvantageous. Feminism seeks to empower a woman separate from the family and is willing to destroy the family for power. The Bible teaches submission, diligence, others minded, contentment and living without fear of her husband or not getting what she deserves but the fear of God lived out in accordance with His design. No! There is no such thing as a celebration of feminism in the Bible.

The Biblical Model of A Family-Loving Feminist is found at the end of the Book of Proverbs.

It depends on how you define feminism.

If it means pro-capitalism and the right of ability to advance regardless of gender, then that’s fine.

If you mean feminism in the sense it is defined in this country today, no.

Feminism in that definition is anti-family in every single sense, and there is room to interpret otherwise. Feminists do not “love family”.

You will not get far saying that to the liberals, or many churches.

On the other hand a woman who is GOD Fearing and Righteous as much as our earthly existence allows us may have to step in when the man refuses to fulfill his obligations as head of house and spiritual leader of family and become as such a tyrant..

Exceptions are a given Abigail saved her household from "Nabal is his name, folly is his game" by her actions, telling servants what to do, but i am confident that as David's wife she was not the head, nor slothful, nor was she chattel, but was led by David and cherished, while diligent in maintaining the household. And the Prov. 28 women had a range of endeavors in so doing, in her supporting role. And by which the family and nation benefits.

Yet women pastors are not Biblical, and the women should normally give deference to the man who is sppsd to lead and call the signals, loving his wife as Christ the church, though spiritually genders are equal.
