A true pope is infallible when teaching faith and morals...either ex cathedra or through the ordinary and universal magisterium.

Burke was the Bishop in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was generally held in high regard. He clearly represented the more socially conservative wing of the Church.

I thought ex cathedra was part of the deal. Did that change?

I included ex cathedra, but that is only the Extraordinary Magisterium. Too often people exclude the Ordinary and Universal Magisterium.

God bless you. Thanks for sharing a part of your story.

If you are anywhere close to a Latin Mass, check it out for much better music and a lot more reverence.

Infallibility refers to doctrine and dogma pronounced with the Magisterium or from the chair (ex cathedra.)

It’s not everything the Pope does.

You have described this whole thing with Cardinal Burke well...the Catholic hierarchy sucks.

Spend some time meditating on the Cross, perhaps gazing upon a Crucifix and reflecting on what He did for all of us. And pray for the Church. The communist hippies from the 60’s and 70’s are slowly dying off anyway. Time truly heals all wounds.

And welcome home.

sitetest:

Pope’s, some more than others, sometimes do have thin skins, and it seems some of Cardinal Burke’s public stances could be taken as criticism of Pope Francis and thus the demotion. Is it because he is a Traditionalist or Leans Traditionalist. Cardinal Pell, also a “Ratzinger protégé” has not been demoted and a protégé of Cardinal Pell was just appointed as Archbishop of Sydney Australia, which usually is a Diocese that gets a Red Hat.

One gets that any of Pope Benedict’s appointees who publicly criticized, or perceived to have publicly criticized Pope Francis are getting re-assigned, some back as Bishops, which happened in Madrid last month [not a bad thing having a Benedict appointee as Bishop of Madrid] and in the case of Cardinal Burke, it appears, to the Catholic “outer limits”.

Dear CTrent1566,

“Pope’s, some more than others, sometimes do have thin skins,...”

Oh, dear! But Pope Franky told us that he is a humble man! How can this be if he is a humble man!

Whatever the reason, it appears that Franky has harmed the Church in demoting Cardinal Burke, especially as the synod on the family is about to start.

I'm unimpressed.

I think Frank needs to check with God about what he is doing

I can’t stand the music at all, even in the Latin Mass, but then I had to consider whether what I was hearing had been tainted by demons

Is Pope Francis exposing his inner South American Marxist beliefs?

FWIW I think you've hit the nail on the head. IMO the demotion has nothing to do with his traditionalist beliefs, and everything to do with a (perceived) lack of respect for the papal office.
