Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Jobs In The Bible

Butcher

(New International Version (NIV)

4 “Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’

(Matthew 22:4)

Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that “We all possess knowledge.” But knowledge puffs up while love builds up. 2 Those who think they know something do not yet know as they ought to know. 3 But whoever loves God is known by God.

4 So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that “An idol is nothing at all in the world” and that “There is no God but one.” 5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”), 6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.

7 But not everyone possesses this knowledge. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat sacrificial food they think of it as having been sacrificed to a god, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled. 8 But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.

9 Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak. 10 For if someone with a weak conscience sees you, with all your knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, won’t that person be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to idols? 11 So this weak brother or sister, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge. 12 When you sin against them in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother or sister to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause them to fall.

(1 Corinthians 8)

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The Torah is explicit about the division between clean and unclean animals, and its prohibition against the eating of blood. It also forbids the pagan practice of boiling a baby goat in its own mother's milk, which was a particularly creepy ritual of the Canaanites.
Over the centuries, in order to ensure that these rather simple laws were observed, a complicated system was developed so that they would not be violated even by accident. So, milk and meat would not be served in the same meal, or even on the same dishes. The person who butchered the meat had to be sure there was no blood left in it. Thus came the entire system of "Keeping Kosher", which is very hard to do, but many sincere Jewish People do it to this day.

Paul faced a different problem in the Gentile World. His new Christians were coming from a culture where the meat had been sacrificed to the Greek and Roman 'gods', and then cut up and sold in the marketplace. Some of the people were offended, others were not. The ones who were offended were actually not correct, as they were now "free", and since the "gods" weren't real, there was actually nothing wrong with the meat. Paul instructs the older, wiser, Christians, who are no longer concerned about the meat, to be kind towards those who are immature in the faith. They can show their maturity by not chowing down pagan meat in the presence of new Christians, which might cause them distress or make them stumble.

What Paul is Teaching is not the law of physical things, but rather the Law of Love.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

In Praise and Honor, LORD, we lift up these Prayers. Praying for the Peace of Jerusalem, for a awakening this year ahead for Thy people Israel, for prosperity and quiet to be among those in the Land, for the Message of Grace to be revealed through our brothers and sisters and their ministries throughout Israel. For Mike LORD JESUS, for Mike. May he call upon YOU as he lays in waiting, come to Him in ways only YOUR GOODNESS allows and our hearts ponder. Amen.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant

"The Parable of the Wedding Feast"
Jan Brueghel The Elder

ND Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,

The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,

And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.
Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.

But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:

And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.

But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.

Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.

So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:

And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

For many are called, but few are chosen.
