Apparently the so called "millions" of catholics don't know this.... But they do know what they are taught to know by their leadership....who appear not to care what God's Word 'clearly' teaches.
Even when the people wanted to make Paul a God when he was in Athens he responded firmly....((Acts 14:12) and the people cried out they are gods,.. they responded resoundly, “we are men like yourselves.”
and again with Peter...in Acts 10:25-27.... As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and 'fell down at his feet and worshiped him'.... But Peter lifted him up, saying,... “Stand up; I myself am also a man."
The enemy of mens souls is always seeking people to turn from God to "others" or something else....And Jesus answered him (satan),.... “It is written,... “‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’”......Luke 4:8
Samuel said to all the Israelites their return to the Lord was conditional.......... "If you are returning to the LORD with all your hearts, then rid yourselves of the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths and commit yourselves to the LORD and 'serve him only'.....I Sam.7:3
...and in Exodus.... “for you shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.’............. This is based on a previous command of 'false worship' in Exodus 20:4-5: ....“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God,....
