What happened to the St. Patricks Parade Post? [Ecumenical; Msgr. Pope's Follow-Up]
Archdiocese of Washington blog ^ | 09/05/2014 | Msgr. Charles Pope

Posted on 09/05/2014 3:13:06 PM PDT by Pyro7480

Many of you have expressed concern about a blog post I wrote on the St. Patrick’s Day Parade which was removed. I am grateful for your concern about this and all the issues we discuss here. I removed the post upon further reflection due to the strong nature of the language I had used in parts of it. I apologize if the language I used caused offense.

I remain concerned about the central point of the article, namely, how we as Catholics can effectively engage a culture that increasingly requires us to affirm what we cannot reasonably affirm. There are many prudential decisions involved in the answer to this question, and my intent is not to directly criticize any bishop or diocese. But this is an issue we must all collectively wrestle with as our culture and our faith reach deeper differences.

I am grateful to the Archdiocese of Washington that has generously sponsored our conversation on this site for five years. I am also grateful to all of you who read and comment. I ask mutual charity and understanding for all parties involved. The beautiful motto of James Cardinal Hickey, who ordained me, rings just now in my heart: Veritatem in Caritate (the truth in charity).

The solution is clear, if a bishop has the balls.

Oh, Dolan's got 'em, alright.

But anything further I'd say about that subject would just be mod-deleted.

I'm drawing a blank on Father Clark, Brother. We have been blessed to have many excellent priests serving in our Parish.

I recall serving as cantor for the 7:30 a.m. Latin Mass many years ago when Msgr. Keesler appeared with a young priest who con-celebrated with him. The young priest gave the Homily - the Gospel that Sunday was "The Prodigal Son." I had always had difficulty with that Parable - it seemed unfair to me.

After listening to that Homily, I came to realize that Salvation is gratuitous, as the Sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ was. Shortly after listening to that Homily, I reconciled with my younger brother, from whom I had long been alienated.

Rather than mocking him, you should pray for him.

In what way or manner did I mock Msgr. Pope, Mark? I've been to his Masses at Old St. Mary's. He is a good, holy priest.

I'm merely pointing out the pressure Donna Wuerl puts on her priests. Ms. Dolan and she are two peas in a pod. Ms. Wuerl booted Fr. Marcel Guarnizo and Ms. Dolan booted Fr. Justin Wylie.

And both of the above (members of your "Lavendar Mafia") voted in the latest papal election. Besides praying for Msgr. Pope, why not also pray for the Lavender Cardinals to return to being Red Cardinals, the color of martyrs' blood?

**He needs our prayers and our support for what he is going through...and, if my suspicions are correct, what he is going to be going through.**

I agree completely.

When then Archbishop Wuerl first came to St. Mary's, I was in the Choir - Wuerl got up to deliver the Homily and walk straight across the Sanctuary without bowing before the Tabernacle.

I've had a bad feeling about him ever since.

Ah, the Novus Ordo Church: making a mess since the 1960’s.

The ridiculousness continues.

Sounds like he got kicked off the website.

It does sound that way, doesn't it?

If he removed it on his own initiative, there was no reason to say that he couldn’t discuss the reasons for its removal.

If, as is most likely, Dolan had a conniption, and Wuerl commanded Pope to remove it, Pope can still truthfully say that HE removed it because of its strong language. Yeah, strong language that enraged Dolan.

“The cardinal last month gave a lengthy interview to the Boston Globe’s Vatican expert, John Allen, in which Dolan indicated that the days of the culture wars in the church were coming to a close. The effort to withhold Communion from pro-choice Catholic pols “is in the past,” he said. And he also said that Francis wants pastoral, social justice-focused bishops “who would not be associated with any one ideological camp.””

Crapweasel.

The floor of Hell is paved with the skulls of bad bishops.

This is what happens when one dissents from Church teaching. No, not official Catholic teaching found in the Catechism. One can dissent from that for years, decades even, with no recriminations. One can make a career of it, as a matter of fact. See LCWR for more details.

No, this is AmChurch "teaching" propagated by so called liberals. Dissent from that and you'll be on the receiving end of some serious "incoming", in a heartbeat.

There's dissent and then there's dissent, folks.

Wuerl did more than that, apparently.

According to many reports (such as this), he was +Francis' "numbers man" and the conclave "pope-maker".

Yes, we need a St Athanasius. Who will that be? So far, I don't see any bishop with that amount of courage.

Nope, he's still there. Posted a quirky homily on a Kia commercial this morning . . .

We shall see. He has a large following. I think he is of more benefit to the archdiocesan blog than they are to him.
