paddywackery
The fakey, out-of-a-box Irishness that insists on the same damned songs and the same damned menu and the same damned Guinness advertisements on the wall of every Irish bar outside of Ireland.
Seen in nearly every film which features a non Irish actor doing an Irish accent. Notable exceptions include Daniel Day Lewis in “In The Name of The Father” and Bradd Pitt in “Snatch”.
“Every St.Patricks day Jose liked to emphasize his Irish roots by wearing green, drinking Guiness and referring to the ‘old country’ but it smacked of Paddywhackery”

I didn't think I had ANY Irish in me until I saw a photo of my father's mother. I THOUGHT that she was all Spanish, having been born and bred in early California.
She was dark haired, curly-haired and dark eyes. BUT, she had a turned-up nose. Now I know that there is no Spaniard in the world who had/has a turned-up nose. As it happened there WAS an Irishman in her past, one who had fled one of Ireland's famines.
HE had shown up in California somehow, overland, Panama Canal or 'round the Horn, who knows, and married a Spanish girl/woman and donated his turned up nose to the gene pool.
So SOMEWHERE in me lurks a few Irish genes. Nary a VESTIGE of paddywackery from me. Faith and begorra, I guess. :o)
