You advocated burning schimatics at the stake.

Whatever someone did in the past, like the Salem witch trials, I don’t see anyone calling for a return to that these days.

I’ve seen several Catholics on this very RF long for the days of and return of the Inquisition and now we can add burning schismatics at the stake.

Knowing Catholic history, that well includes former Catholics.

So it doesn’t matter when the last time it actually was done was because the mindset is still alive and well within Catholicism as evidenced by those posts and would still be happening if the RCC hadn’t gotten it’s wings clipped by civil authorities, who are more civil and Christ like, that those advocating burning those who disagree with them at the stake.

And at that point, it does become the business of those at whom that kind of mindset is directed.

I, for one, will never encourage this sort of talk. I believe the Catholic Church is the one true Church, but do not want to go back to burnings at the stake. I mean, really. The level of rhetoric in this thread is out of control.

You imagine yourself to be a target of an inquisitorial (burn 'em at the stake) "mindset," If I thought you should be burned at the stake, I would say so and I have not. Instead, I have praised your honest efforts here on matters such as homeschooling. You will find me to be an ally on more matters than you imagine.

When I represented 1100 pro-lifers arrested generally for alleged felonies, I represented each person (including many Reformed Christians as well as Catholics) to the court according to that person's own beliefs and often not my own. 1070 were found not guilty or had their charges dismissed altogether largely because of their admirable militancy and refusal to cooperate with authorities.

I was not interested then and I am not interested now in Catholic vs. Reformed Christian old slipper chewing contests. I am who and what I am and not very likely to change. I extend the same presumption to Reformed Christians whom I encounter here or anywhere. The remaining questions have to do with where we may cooperate across denominational lines and where we may not. Once the boundaries are established, we can move forward in limited partnership.

Nearly finally, you have probably been here long enough to recall that the Tomas de Torquemada Gentlemen's Club was a group of traditional Catholics here on FR not willing to allow the concept of Traditional Catholic to be hijacked by SSPX schismatics for whom disobedience to legitimate Church authority is an article of faith.

TdTGC was, to the best of my knowledge, initiated by ninenot who has not graced this site in some time. The leader of those others devoted to Marcel LeFebvre was ultima ratio who has also been gone from this site for a while now. When he went away, the purpose of the TdTGC waned. I am Irish and Scottish and English and German and stubborn as can be. I would sooner put selfies on the internet (not in my lifetime, not in God's lifetime) than become what I was brought up to think of as Protestants, although about half or more of my ancestry was Presbyterian or Anglican. I have kept the concept of TdTGC alive through my tag line just in case the schismatics return. From a Roman Catholic POV, you seem to qualify as an honest heretic (from the Mother Church, a description not insult) but you do not make false CLAIMS to be Catholic as the SSPX schismatics do. Quite the contrary. You are an honest person. Therein lies the difference.

America is a great country which accommodates us all.
