I grew up as an Anglican, much as this story describes, before I converted to the Catholic Church as an undergraduate many years ago. I did so because, much as I had benefited from the Anglican Church, I came to the conclusion that the Catholic Church had the only claim to be the one, true, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church of the ancient creed. If my own conversion experience is any guide, it’s unlikely that anyone who follows such a path from Anglican to Catholic will turn out to be a liberal Catholic. I think converts to the Church usually tend to be more conservative and orthodox than those who were born into the Church but may not have considered all the issues.

This story makes a big thing about the Catholic bishops and the immigration issue. Their statements are not Catholic doctrine, but personal opinion, and I think most of us would agree that they are being foolishly misled. I hope and trust that that isn’t the kind of issue that is causing Sensenbrenner to convert. In fact, it seems very doubtful.

Let’s wait and see, eh?

What is generally found with converts to the Church is that they KNOW SOMETHING about THE CHURCH. Refreshing

What is all too often found about born Catholics is, they know not enough about THE CHURCH -

-— meaning all its teachings, history, rules, etc etc

In fact, a Convert may have actually READ the CATICHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH !

The loudest ones, the ones on the various committees of the USCCB, know exactly what they are doing. The bishops' conference has always been an appendage of the Democrat party, and it has been Marxist and Alinskyite since at least the days of Bernardin. There are Catholics among the bishops, but they have done nothing to expose or thwart the Marxists.

"...but may not have considered all the issues."

In '64 when I was 12 my mom wanted to sing in the choir of a Catholic church in Hialeah FL. Yet she had to attend instruction in the faith to do so, and I went with her.

The text was "Father Smith Instructs Jackson" which I still have. I seem to recall it going on for about ten weeks. After that time, converts were admitted in a special congregation wide mass.

Neither Mom nor I converted. But it sure was interesting.
