” How do you know theyre from the apostles, Paul in particular?
“How do you know theyve been passed down faithfully?
If they were really official traditions, I want documentation they were practiced or believed during the time of the Apostles and before 100ad:
Where do they appear in Sacred Scripture as:
Commandments
Teachings
Examples
Imperative statements of any kind.
Where do they appear outside Sacred Scripture before 100ad in:
Contemporaneous secular writings
Sacred artworks
Secular artworks
If they were not practiced, they were not passed down from the Apostles, nor referred to by the Apostles.
The claim of “traditions” is simply the identical claim of a “living constitution” we hear in the political world. It is the claimed authority to add to God’s revelation at any time, in any century, for any reason the leadership prefers.
The Holy, Inspired Scriptures serve as a bulwark against theological drift into error.
And to close...
This is why I care about someone’s spiritual state of entrusting themselves to the Gospel of Grace, apart from works. Sure, lots “believe” the Gospel (if they understand it). Demons believe. Have you entrusted yourself to HIM and salvation by grace, apart from works or any contribution on your part? Which assembly you choose to worship at after that is not important to me. God can guide you.
It doesn't get more basic than that.
