This is why I care about someone’s spiritual state of entrusting themselves to the Gospel of Grace, apart from works. Sure, lots “believe” the Gospel (if they understand it). Demons believe. Have you entrusted yourself to HIM and salvation by grace, apart from works or any contribution on your part? Which assembly you choose to worship at after that is not important to me. God can guide you.

It doesn't get more basic than that.

"That includes knowing that the seven extra books Catholics tacked onto the Bible . . ."

Catholics put together the Greek Septaugient hundreds of years before Christ? Wow, that has to be one of the most absurd and ignorant things I've ever seen someone post.

That’s a good question....I’ll probably look it up. But, it seems as though most folks seemed to get wrapped up in either the history or academic side of their denomination rather than stick with the author’s work (of the Bible), so most points have little debate merit (IMO). We (Christians) know the things Yahweh detests, so why take a chance on tampering with anything in the Commandments or the Gospels?

Except that we don't and it doesn't!.

2 Thessalonians 2:14 Therefore, brethren, stand fast; and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by word, or by our epistle.

James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

It's always interesting to see someone who claims to rely on Scripture first defend Luther throwing a large portion of the Old Testament in the garbage and follow up by directly contradicting what is clearly stated in the anti-Christ Pharisee Approved Luther Subset of Scripture they do claim to accept as the Word of God.

Apparently once someone decides throwing a large portion of the Word of God in the garbage can is a good thing they decide directly contradicting Scripture whenever they please is also a good thing.

“I’ve noticed that too. Nothing makes a Catholic fade into the woodwork faster than asking for specifics.

I’ve posed these questions to numerous Catholics over the months and not had one taker on it”

As a baptised Catholic why do you have to ask other Catholics. I thought you had all the answers.

Well, of course I believe that. In fact, I love that passage like I do many others. But what that was left out would contradict or be inconsistent with what’s been revealed? Nothing would.

Consider these passages from Scripture:

1 Corinthians 2:

1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.

2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

And from Philippians 4:

“Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

We have the mind of Christ, and through our surrender and prayer to Him, we have His guidance, and we have no need to get trapped in anxiety over what happens here if we have put our trust in Him as our Savior.

On what John mentions and “Holy Tradition,” if what we know supported what you say, then I would need to follow that. I trust the Lord to lead me, and whatever is the truth I want to follow, and I also wouldn’t want to oppose God. These aren’t disputes about man’s opinions, but about Truth itself. I’m satisfied that all that I know of the Catholic Church points to that while it pretty much has the true Gospel (Jesus is God’s Son who died for us and was resurrected so that whoever believes in Him will be forgiven for our sins and have eternal life) it has departed from all that’s revealed in God’s Word to the extent that it undermines its grip on the Gospel. For example, it embraces evolution and Genesis as myth, when both the Old and New Testaments contain genealogies which ensure that if you reject the historical nature of the Creation story in Genesis, you have also rejected belief in the whole Bible.

It's always interesting to see someone who claims that Scripture is not sufficient to DO the things GOD wants. They then follow up by directly contradicting what is clearly stated in the Christ Approved Whole of Scripture by adding a bunch of other junk.

Actually, the absurd and ignorant things are coming out of you! You continue to demonstrate that you don't bother to read the data presented and it's why you come out with these kinds of goofy interpretations. Go back and read it and you may just get it this time.

Except that Luther was NOT the first one to view the Apocryphal books as non-inspired, Luther NEVER threw out ANY books - though seven out of 39 is a bit of a stretch to call it a "large portion" - and you've been told that enough times that continuing to assert it is tantamount to an overt lie. Do you have ANY proof whatsoever that the Jews included those books with the Old Testament Scriptures AS Scripture? No, you don't, because they didn't. They, apparently, were much more reverent of God's sacred word than those who think those books were included.

As for your turbid conclusion that Scripture backs you up concerning sola Scriptura, I hope you at least recognize the irony. Quoting one out of context passage from James also hardly negates the myriad other passages that assure us our salvation is not a result of our works but by the grace and mercy of God through faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord.

But, I repeat, go ahead and worship your bloated version of the Bible that, even after knowing it contains errors and heresy, you still assume it is all from the Holy Spirit. Go ahead, also, and rely on all the things you do for God that make you good enough and worthy of heaven. I'll continue to pray that your eyes will be opened to the truth about grace and you receive the gift of eternal life before it's too late.

ROTFLOL. Someone who doesn't even know who put together the Septuagint posing as a Bible scholar is just too funny.

Not nearly as funny as how such "scholars" assemble and defend their own personal Sola Yourselfa version of the Bible, though.

I think it is sad, not hilarious, that certain Catholics are unable to answer the "hard" questions about the Bible that have been asked on this thread and so they ignore them and pretend others are the ones with problems. Hopefully, there has been enough factual information posted that those who sincerely seek to know the truth, CAN know it.
