I must say, I have to agree. The proper term is “the ministry of the laity.” Using the term “lay people” implies an inferior position, and in Christ their are no inferior positions.

I have never before heard an objection to the term "lay person": it is applied to me (I apply it to myself!) and I do not find it objectionable. So, honest question: what is condescending about the term "lay person"?
