Why do Protestant lay people hate clergy?

Posted on 07/26/2014 4:41:46 AM PDT by michaelwlf3

I am coming up on my first year as an ordained minister in a continuing Anglican church, and I have noticed that participating on political forums (even when the topic is religious) I find that my opinions and postings more often than not generate more hatred than anything else. Among the things I often hear are that the laity are the real priests and that I am a Pharisee, that my vocation disqualifies me from offering an opinion on anything Christian because I am too narrow minded, and (my personal favorite) because I look too Catholic I must be a child molester.

Are these people really Christians?

It amazes me that you post that and still don’t understand the error of putting some man on a pedestal. You try to associate all Protestants with Luther and his evil yet you don’t do the same with Catholics and the many, many evil popes. The hypocrisy is stunning. We should perhaps ask Elsie to re-post his list of evil popes and have you address how you should be associated with each of their evil deeds.

It’s been interesting to me that he vehemently denies he is Catholic yet the premise of his thread is that he is often mistaken for one. It’s obvious to me that his walk talk is louder than his talk talk.

Thanks for the ping....

....”the error of putting some man on a pedestal”.....

Thus they will be easily led to believe the great deception when it comes.... Already indoctrinated to “ worship” a leader, (either directly or indirectly), these are those most easily swayed to believe a lie.

Yet there are those here who would tout their superior education as if it trumps the teaching of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

I rejoice every time you post that. It’s humbling to know that Jesus Himself is our High Priest, Lord, and King.

The Nazis took Luther's advice, step by step.

Or claimed to, when in fact they were just emulating popish anti-semitism:

The Bull Hebraeorum gens ("The Jewish Race") 1569, of Saint Pius V, which expelled Jews from some of the Papal states, began with these words:

"The Jewish people fell from the heights because of their faithlessness and condemned their Redeemer to a shameful death. Their godlessness has assumed such forms that, for the salvation of our own people, it becomes necessary to prevent their disease. Besides usury, through which Jews everywhere have sucked dry the property of impoverished Christians, they are accomplices of thieves and robbers; and the most damaging aspect of the matter is that they allure the unsuspecting through magical incantations, superstition, and witchcraft to the Synagogue of Satan and boast of being able to predict the future. We have carefully investigated how this revolting sect abuses the name of Christ and how harmful they are to those whose life is threatened by their deceit. On account of these and other serious matters, and because of the gravity of their crimes which increase day to day more and more, We order that, within 90 days, all Jews in our entire earthly realm of justice -- in all towns, districts, and places -- must depart these regions."

Well after the death of Luther, a 'Vicar of Christ' primus inter pares, issued these words. As shown previously in #596 papacy endorsed anti-semitism prevailed in the 19th century.

If one is ignorant of good and evil one may have an excuse.

Where is the popish ignorance? If Luther knew good and evil did not the Catholic church? Why then the venom for the AS of Luther and give the Catholic church and its leaders a pass? Fail German in high school?

That's alright, as this FAILs as well.

>> Well, THIS ANGLICAN is forever mystified as to why Protestants like yourself think that the writings of the RCC have anything to do with me.<<

Perhaps your own words should give you a hint.

And I quote; “If you saw me in public, though, you would think I am a Catholic priest”.

Plus your words here have obviously been viewed as coming from a Catholic. Perhaps you may want to rethink the image and words you use if you want perception to change.

>> “You're obviously reading more into that passage than it says.” <<

.
No I quote exactly what it says.

Matthew 7:

[21] Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
[22] Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
[23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
[24] Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
[25] And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
[26] And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
[27] And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Who are they that work iniquity?

Working Iniquity is by definition teaching that we not obey Torah.

Do you know anyone here that does that?

Could Matthew 7 have been specifically written to you?

.

If I’ve got it backwards, we’re all in trouble, since I’ve only repeated what Yeshua and his apostles have said.

You claimed they were operating in the gifts of the Spirit here in post 687....

These are YOUR words.

The persons that Yeshua mentions in that chapter confessed his name, and worked in the gifts of the spirit, yet he said that “I never knew ye.”

That is reading more into the passage than it says. T here is no reference to those aforementioned people operating in the gifts of the Spirit. They just claimed they worked wonders.

>> Working Iniquity is by definition teaching that we not obey Torah.<<

Could this have been written about you?

Acts 15: 5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

>> Who are they that work iniquity?<<

“Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” John 6:28-29

Hebrews 3:

[14] For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

1Timothy 4:

[1] Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
[16] Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Phil 2:12

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Heb.6

[1] Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
[2] Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
[3] And this will we do, if God permit.
[4] For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
[5] And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
[6] If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
[7] For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
[8] But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
[9] But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.
[10] For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
[11] And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
[12] That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
[13] For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
[14] Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
[15] And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

Demonstrating yet again that you lack even the most basic understanding of the scriptures!

Especially your lack of understanding of Acts 15, not accepting the words of Yeshua when he denounced each and every thing that the Pharisees taught, and refusing the knowledge that what the Pharisees taught as the “law of Moses” was in reality their own laws of men.

This is your barrier to understanding the entire NT.

And belief?

You have shown by your posting history that you do not believe in Yeshua, as believing in him is believing all that he taught, which you openly reject. By this you work iniquity.

You are grasping at fine straw!

Yeshua did not say that they lied, he simply said that he never knew them.

He will someday say that to you if you persist in working against his clear teachings.

Ah yes, he who doesn’t believe the New Testament as we have it in the Greek is the inspired word of God uses it to attempt to denigrate one who does believe the New Testament is the word of God and trusts God completely to have kept His word.

“It’s obvious to me that his walk talk is louder than his talk talk.”

What’s obvious to me is that most of you wouldn’t know an Anglican minister if if you bit one, because your Catholic hate is stronger than the little discernment you have.
