Why do Protestant lay people hate clergy?

Posted on 07/26/2014 4:41:46 AM PDT by michaelwlf3

I am coming up on my first year as an ordained minister in a continuing Anglican church, and I have noticed that participating on political forums (even when the topic is religious) I find that my opinions and postings more often than not generate more hatred than anything else. Among the things I often hear are that the laity are the real priests and that I am a Pharisee, that my vocation disqualifies me from offering an opinion on anything Christian because I am too narrow minded, and (my personal favorite) because I look too Catholic I must be a child molester.

Are these people really Christians?

Your lack of understanding on this in no way surprises me. It wouldn't be the only area where you have been proved wrong - repeatedly.

Given how ridiculous your claim is, save it. No one is going to believe you. You might as well post positive, Internet-quality proof that the moon landing was faked...

Let’s see an original manuscript of any Greek epistle!

You love to make a fool of yourself on this constantly.

All of the thought patterns of the NT are solidly Hebrew, and essentially untranslatable into Greek, which is the basis for the imaginary “Koine” dialect that the Greeks have long been telling us couldn’t have existed.

Greek NT original texts would be in the same category as a faked moon landing!

Thanks for the clarity!

Yeah, let’s look at Strong’s. (beloved (1), love (1), love (112), love feasts (1), love's (1).)

http://biblehub.com/greek/26.htm Original Word: ἀγάπη, ης, ἡ
Transliteration: agape
Definition: love, benevolence, good will, esteem; plur: love-feasts.

Or perhaps Thayer’s? (http://biblehub.com/thayers/26.htm)

affection, good-will, love, benevolence:

Interesting that agape is in every case given the definition of love. Only in the King James is charity used. Wonder why the King would have wanted charity to be inserted?

>> Paul also explained this (1Cor 15:51-54)<<

No reference to “born again” is found in those verses. Additionally I would like you to show where being born again is tied to the resurrection of believers. That twisting of scripture is akin to what the Catholics do.

I’m thinking she would agree with me that reading scripture spiritually with help from the Holy Spirit gives better understanding then does the carnal “mental processes of perception, memory, judgment, and reasoning” aka cognitively. That’s the problem with Rood and his followers. They totally lack the help of the Holy Spirit.

The Hebrew language pretty much went extinct after 400 BC or so, didn’t it?

No, that isn't true - the overwhelmingly Hebrew Dead Sea Scrolls, and more particularly the Bar Kochba Letters (c. 135AD) show Hebrew to be a vibrant and living language well beyond the Biblical time. In fact, some modern scholars defend Hebrew as a living language all the way into the Crusades and Medieval times, though most are satisfied with some endurance beyond 135AD... Perhaps c. 200/250AD...

Poke here:

Hebrew had ceased to be an everyday spoken language somewhere between the first and fourth centuries CE[10] and survived into the medieval period only as the language of Jewish liturgy and rabbinic literature. Then, in the 19th century, it was revived as a spoken and literary language, and, according to Ethnologue, is now the language of 9 million people worldwide,[11][12] of whom 7 million are from Israel.[3][13] The United States has the second largest Hebrew speaking population, with about 221,593 fluent speakers,[14] mostly from Israel.

"EVERYONE's interpretation of Scripture is their own personal interpretation. Whether it agrees with someone else's is irrelevant.

By adopting someone else's as yours, you are deciding by yourself, that theirs is correct, thus you are merely throwing in your lot with a whole bunch of other people.

Doing that does not mean that it's not your own personal interpretation. You still, as an individual, have made the determination that they are correct, thus, having your own personal interpretation.

NO ONE is immune from the charge.

Excellent point and worth restating en toto!

Jesus’ body does not have blood in it now.

God never differentiated between eating the blood of animals and people.

So, if y’all believe that eating the eucharist gives life, then there are multiple problems.

One is clearly that anyone who does not eat, does not have life in them. Therefore non-Catholic communion is useless as it cannot impart life.

That means that anyone outside of the Catholic church cannot be saved.

Additionally, it does not deal with the matters of the heart. It’s strictly the flesh, and if it works, it works ALL THE TIME. It has to.

God kicked Adam and Eve out of the garden after they sinned because if they ate of the Tree of Life in a sinful state, they would be trapped in that state forever because the Tree worked because it was in it’s nature to work and it worked all the time, regardless of the condition of the heart.

Likewise, if eating imparts life, then it works all the time as it’s the nature of it to impart life, and clearly no Catholic believes that all they have to do is take communion once to be saved.

I think it is rather curious that a self-appointed "links please?" Freeper made NO comments to the poster who failed to attribute copy and paste words in a post. Could it be a case of selective enforcement? ;o)

And...lest I be accused of not pinging the person to whom I am referring, I pinged her.

Once again, it is clear to me that you didn’t understand that the OP was about INTERNET discussion
////////////////////////////////////////////////////

You said that your favorite insult was being told that you LOOKED like a child molester. How did they know what you looked like from an internet discussion? And why not cut and paste some of the insults that you OFTEN get, dates and all, just to shut me up. You should have one year of such accusations that you often get. Must be hundreds of them.
...oh yeah...one more minor detail...since you made the blanket accusation that these insults come from ‘protestants’, please post the relevant information that allowed you to make that certain determination.

Taken out of context, again.

I believe that you misinterpret the statement, even in context, as I'll explain, again.

The context is settling disputes between believers, not giving absolute blanket authority to any one church or organization to dictate doctrine and salvation,

The latter follows with logical necessity from the former.

"Tell it to the church."

1) This church must be visible. An invisible church can't settle disciplinary disputes.

2) Jesus founded a church, so he must be speaking of His visible church.

3) Churches are distinguished by doctrine and practice. Church discipline regards violations of either.

To settle disputes regarding doctrine and practice, the church must possess a unified body of doctrine and practice, otherwise, it would be impossible to resolve disputes.

One could indefinitely appeal to any body of self-described Christians, teaching various conflicting doctrines. (See Protestantism).

4) Jesus and His Church existed contemporaneously. He could have said, "take it to Me." But he said, "tell it to the church." He gave His Church His disciplinary authority.

This is corroborated by the passages regarding Jesus giving Peter the keys of the Kingdom, and Jesus giving Peter and the Apostles the power to "bind and loose," and Paul's description of the church as "the pillar and foundation of truth."

Ignoring you, is what you’re due.

Rather, "Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish." (Proverbs 12:1)

And if you are going to defend pasting 400+ words of material that is not your own without any attribution, then you are ignoring the RM as well.

The birth into the incorruptible body is the spiritual birth.

I usually ignore this far fetched idea, as being "born of the Spirit" is well established to be that birth by which one becomes a child of God, which Jn. 1:12 speaks of:

"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" (John 1:12)

And by which receiving one is placed into the kingdom of God:

"Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:" (Colossians 1:13)

Thus,

"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again [as spiritually, from above], he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3)

"That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." (John 3:6)

And which birth of the Spirit is part of the conversion event:

"Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures." (James 1:18)

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead," (1 Peter 1:3)

"And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;" (Acts 15:7-8)

These who die in faith will see the literal realization of the kingdom of God, with transformed bodies, as they have the Spirit which is the token of that future experience.

"In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise," (Ephesians 1:13)

"But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his." (Romans 8:9)

And thus Jn. 3:16 follows that, and as one is indwelt by the Spirit in conversion, so he is led by the Spirit.

"The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit." (John 3:8)

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." (Romans 8:14)

"Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia," "After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not." (Acts 16:6-7)

One could believe this birth of the Spirit is the resurrection, but he cannot deny that one must be spiritually born of God in conversion, being made alive by the Spirit by faith, and that one must possess the Divine Spirit of Christ to belong to the Lord, and to see the literal kingdom of God, with transformed bodies.

What birth you would call that i know not.
