His expressed favorite is The Quest for Holiness, which I'll now look into. But what are your recommendations?

Thanks for asking.

Knowing God tops my list as well.

"Fundamentalism" and the Word of God is Packer's exposition of the doctrine of Scripture. It was actually the first of his books I read.

Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God (sometimes published as Evangelism and Sovereignty) is about the relationship of the doctrine of predestination and human responsibility, particularly where it concerns proclaiming the Gospel. It is also excellent.

I'll put in a word also for Keeping in Step with the Spirit, about what it means to walk in the Spirit (per Galatians 5:16). It's brief, but good.

Thanks for your recommendations. They all sound like worthy topics, and combining that with an author already known to me for his expository excellence and doctrinal purity makes them well worth looking into [scribbling titles].

Based both on your recommendation and also on other favorable reviews (not to mention that anything by Packer commends itself, but one's time does need budgeting), today I ordered Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God. It's on a topic in which I had previous interest, so it appears the Spirit is leading me to it, through you and others.
