Boston Cardinal Sean O’Malley made the news recently when he compared those of us who think our immigration laws ought to be honored with the anti-Catholic “Know-Nothings” of the nineteenth century. In the process, he aligned himself with the forces on the left that are out to destroy the Catholic Church. As a practicing Catholic myself, I will go easy on O’Malley and write off his historical gaps and odd alliances to naiveté. The good Cardinal simply may not know what fate awaits those who think they can dance with the devil and walk away unscathed.
A few years back I was doing research for my book, What’s the Matter With California, I found myself in downtown Los Angeles with an hour to kill between appointments. So I decided to check out the city’s controversial new $200 million cathedral, a clunky modernist structure with all the spiritual allure of a grain elevator. Given the cathedral’s $3 per 20-minute parking fee, I had cash enough for only about three “Our Fathers” and a “Glory Be.”
I emerged from the parking garage right in front of a press table. “Are you here for the press conference?” asked the woman manning it. “Yea, sure,” I answered. Dressed as I was in a sport jacket, and looking semi-respectable, I signed in and got my press pass. I still had no idea what the press conference was about.
I walked up another flight of stairs to a courtyard and saw about a dozen TV cameras arrayed in a semi-circle around a podium. “What’s going on?” I asked one of the cameramen, a generally more trustworthy media breed than the producers and reporters.

Yes, I know your bishop may be spot-on and may not buy into the leftist drivel, but, if that is the case, he is the exception rather than the rule.
My Aunt’s neighborhood in Nashville is being overrun with Africans brought in by Catholic Charities. They are sucking up taxpayer money by the carload, driving new cars, sending the kids to college for free, etc.... . This is truly the promised land for them courtesy of the American Taxpayer.

The Catholic Church is liberal on immigration. Always has been. It’s all about taking care of the less fortunate in society. I disagree with the Church’s stance. I say secure the borders before you let anyone into the country that is not supposed to be here.
I haven’t had much to donate to my parish anyway, but the American Church’s refusal to address the evil of affirmative action, coupled with their hand in destroying America’s miidle class with this wrong-headed approach to immigration, would have ended any charity on my part.
The American Church is being put out of business by liberal government, and they are collaborators in the effort. My area had large Catholic educational and healthcare segments that are almost gone now.
Huerta railed about “death and destruction” in Iraq, the need for universal health care, a higher minimum wage and a smorgasbord of other socialist causes. Union organizers followed Huerta's rant, demanding “genuine legalization now.”
BTW, Zavala resigned couple years later after acknowledging
he had fathered two children. He's now listed as "retired."
The most compassionate way to help the poor around the globe would be to fix things in their home countries. It is physically impossible for all 7 billion of them to come here.

I thought Catholics had big families, don’t tell me, not only did he violate his vows but at the same time he used birth control. Oh the shame of it all.
The Catholic Church is all about having more Catholics. If bringing the poor Catholics of the Third World here results in them being able to breed more Catholics, then it's a good thing, in the eyes of the Church, even if helping the poor of the world results in the impoverishment of the American middle class.

Not only O’Malley but Dolan and Mahony have both said the same thing.
The Catholic Church helps all minorities. Makes no difference what faith they have. I am a Knight of Columbus and we raise money constantly to help feed and clothe the poor, and it makes no difference what faith they are. We never ask anyone if they’re Catholic. Makes no difference. If a bunch of muslims were trying to get out of Iraq due to persecution, the Church would help them. That the majority of hispanics claim to be Catholic is irrelevant. I just think it’s bad policy to let anyone in the country that comes in illegally. They should be arrested and deported. A country without borders is no country.

While, yes, most all are 100% behind illegals, I don’t personally remember hearing the overly inflammatory rhetoric, such as “know nothings” or Gestapo, like I’ve heard from those three.
IMO it's anti-Protestant rhetoric.
The Vatican is a sovereign country with it's own ambassadors. They even have their own shortwave radio station. Don't be an asshole.
