Catholics believe Peter was the first pope. He was married.

That should carry a lot of weight, in my opinion.

Here is something else that should carry a lot of weight.

“This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;”
—1 Timothy 3:1-2

Paul seemed to believe marriage was just fine for bishops or overseers.

Here is something else Paul said regarding latter days apostates:

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.”

True. But at the same time, St. Paul and Jesus commend celibacy.
