The iconic red border of Time magazine will frame Pope Francis as its 2013 Person of the Year, the magazine announced Wednesday morning. By the judgement of Time’s editorial staff, the pope–elected earlier this year after a surprise resignation by predecessor Pope Benedict–was the most influential global newsmaker of the past 12 months. Earlier this week, Time narrowed the finalists down to ten, then five. Pope Francis ultimately won out over Edward Snowden, Syrian president Bashar Assad, Texas senator Ted Cruz and gay rights activist Edith Windsor.

Alas, what a missed opportunity. It would have been awesome to watch the meltdown in both parties that would have resulted if finalist Ted Cruz had gotten the nod.

Other than the Pope, the back-up choice would have, if it was me, be Sen. Ted Cruz.

If it wasn’t for the Popes’(?) recent remarks, it would have been Assad.

This is because OT1H Francis is a liberation theologian of Latino America, and the other that Benedict is (gasp) German!

In truth, Pope Francis is of a “pastorial” backround, unlike Pope Benedict, retired, who was more “theological” .

The very fact that Time Magazine chose Pope Francis for their man of the year should make their choice suspect. They smell a kindred socialist soul. I mean can’t you figure it out? Time Magazine made this choice. Why? Think about it.

Point being be suspicious of any Catholic from South America. They have a special culture of communist worldview.

Some awards are a dishonour to receive. Time’s Man of the Year is one of them.

However, His Holiness will not stoop to Time’s level by dignifying it with a response, even a polite refusal.

Rather that it was and is a reflection that the Church is truly unversal, beyond Europe.

The liberal Times is just being consistent. The rag loves socialists.

Hussein made Time’s Person of the Year in 2008 and 2012, the years of his election and re-election as POTUS. Pope Francis made Person of the Year in the year of his election to the papacy. Couldn’t be more consistent.
