The Saratogan certainly gives him a sympathetic hearing! Can I conclude from this that the good bishop has never said a word that might discomfit a Democrat politician? That's how it works in Boston anyway . . .:(

No need to be a psychic to comprehend that ;-) Bishops wield tremendous power over the media. The "reign of terror" ends today. Interestingly enough, his good friend, "uber progressive" Bishop Matthew Clark, from the neighboring Diocese of Rochester, retired last year. Both were recommended by Archbishop Jean Jadot, Pope Paul VI's apostolic delegate to the United States from 1973-1980, Jadot is still proud of some of his most notorious picks, such as Bishop Walter Sullivan of Richmond, Va., Archbishop Rembert Weakiand of Milwaukee, and Roger Cardinal Mahony of Los Angeles - to name but a few, many of whom are known more for their advocacy of homosexual rights, their protection of pederast priests, and their conunitment to modernism than to their commitment to the Church's doctrines. Still Proud Of Bishops He Gave U.S

The goal for Jadot was to intentionally have very young bishops appointed, anticipating they would one day be elevated to cardinal and participate in a conclave where they would elect an equally "uber" progressive pope who would convene VCIII, at which time, ALL their progressive ideas would come to fruition: married priests, women priests, et al. Jadot failed to factor in the work of the Holy Spirit.

FWIU, over the past 36 years, many orthodox catholics from both dioceses wrote to the Vatican about ongoing abuses in the respective dioceses. They became frustrated when nothing was done to remove either one. It was this article that helped me to put it all into perspective. To cite an example of the horrific damage done, here in Watervliet NY, 5 of the 6 parishes were closed by Bishop Hubbard. Prior to doing so, however, he asked them to meet and compare finances, then submit their recommendations to him. Granted, many of these churches were constructed at the turn of the 20th century by diverse immigrant groups. Their children and grandchildren moved away and these communities struggled to maintain their respective parish. Many of them, however, were financially solvent. They took the bishop at his word. They met over the span of several months and submitted a solvent plan to the bishop. He never attended any of their meetings. His response was to close 5 of the churches + 1 school.

The reaction was shock and awe. They appealed the decision but it was final. St. Patrick's, modeled after the Cathedral at Lourdes, was sold to a local supermarket chain. The descendants of those who built it, at great financial sacrifice, stood vigil as sections of the church were dismantled.

St. Patrick's Church, Watervliet NY

St. Patrick's under the wrecking ball.

It was more than many of them could bear. They fled to a local Evangelical Church. Some of the remnant have made their way to our church. One of them was just elected to the Parish Council. Like me, he sees our parish as an answer to so many prayers and wants to bring back the lost sheep.
