The Church has been and remains the only institutional bulwark against abortion and much else.
Perhaps, but as the UN is entirely devoted to political ends and purposes I don't see how the pope can, in good conscience, allow the Church to remain active within it. To quote the Holy Father directly "Political institutions are secular by definition and work in an independent sphere" and "I have already said that the church will not occupy itself with politics." That should spell the end of the Church's presence in that body.
