The ethnic “church” is still evident here in the Capital District of NY. In Watervliet, there used to be 5 churches within walking distance of each other: Italian, French, Irish, Italian and Polish. They were merged several years ago into one, non ethnic church. A short distance from here, in the city of Cohoes, the same phenomenon played out. There were 7 Catholic Churches: Irish, French, Italian, Polish, Irish, Ukrainian, etc.. Now there are only 2 RC parishes and 1 Ukrainian Catholic Church.
My Irish American/Swamp Yankee grandparents attended a Lebanese Church in Quincy Massachusetts. I enjoyed this article, well done.
