Heck, it’s highly popular in North America, too. I lived in a town in Northern California that must have supported half of India as “palm readers.” (A lot of the palmists and tarot card readers were Indians - or gypsies.) The red-neon outlined hand was about the most common sign in town.

I’ll never figure it out. People won’t go to church and don’t accept religious faith, but then they’ll go to some shady dive and spend a bundle on these “fortune tellers” and act as if that’s somehow perfectly reasonable.
