The Holy Father named Bishop Salvatore Cordileone of Oakland to be the ninth Archbishop of San Francisco. A terrific appointment. More to follow as this surprise (to some) appointment--he moves across the Bay from Oakland to San Francisco--begins to hit the email stream. Although obviously there are plenty of details that soon-to-be Archbishop Cordileone needs to master, it is not exactly as if he comes to the appointment without a clear sense of the situation in the City of St. Francis. A press conference at 10 AM at the cathedral will be streamed here. Bishop Salvatore CordileoneYou can bet this will be seen and felt by some as the San Francisco Earthquake of 2012.

Here is the Vatican on the subject of the new Archbishop of San Francisco:

What you said abouit the SF Chancery office not supporting him, is interesting. I was in SF 25 years ago on some pro-life business, and the gal who ran the Diocesan Respect Life Dept (I can't remember her name) spoke to me in a whisper in her little cubby-corner, wouldn't open up to me until we got outside the building --- she said there were borts all over the place who would undermine our work if they found out what we were doing.

Just one incident. 25 years ago. But what an eye-opener.

And Im sure there are disordered brethren plotting some ruination against Cordeleone right now. Not just Most Holy Redeemer parish.

He'll need that "Lion's Heart".

That was under Quinn, I am surprised she was even allowed an office.

Locals have already expressed concern for his safety at the Installation, much depends on how the officials in SF handle the security, or not.

Sounds great!

Only time will tell, IMO. On the surface, (arch)Bishop Salvatore Cordileone looks promising, but Niederauer looked promising, too and look how he worked out.

“Marriage, the union of one man and one woman, is the cornerstone of society. It is also the foundation of a just society, as it protects the most vulnerable segment of the population, children. Every child longs for and deserves a mother and a father, and marriage is the only institution that insures that children grow up knowing and being known by their mother and father. The public good demands that this truth of marriage be respected in law and society, not rejected.”

- (Arch)Bishop Salvatore Cordileone

**This will be a long, slow process. Please pray for +C, he will need all the help he can get, his new Chancery will not support him.**

We must pray for him. And yes, it will be a long, slow process. It’s just very exciting to have an orhtodox bishops to deal with Nancy Pelosi.

It’s just back from the corner of Tropicana and Pearl.

Very pretty and unique from the outside.

Interesting to hear Mass in Vietnamese.
